    Flowing Softly: Ullola course (copenhagen)

A series of gentle morning classes awakening sensitivity through wave-like movements (ullola) following the natural rhythms of your breath. Open Flow Yoga:

Open flow yoga is a practice of somatic self-enquiry. It invites you to access the inherent wisdom of your body by teaching you to move from deeply felt sensation. Instructions are given as gentle invitation to listen, feel and respond to the body you have today. Rather than fitting body into shapes dictated by the teacher, you will be guided into allowing your own inherent movement to freely fulfill itself.

    How is it practiced?
The classes are taught as a mixture of structured and spontaneous movement enquiries as well as rest in meditative stillness. It’s a dynamic, but gentle and meditative practice expanding your practice a little beyond the movements of classic yoga posture practice. Thus, adding to classical yoga posture practice, a class can include wave-like movements (undulation), gentle rocking movements (osscilation) open flows (fluctuation) and subtle pre-movements and meditative stillness. Throughout the practice, you will be invited to feel the arising and dissolving of internal sensation and allow our mind to rest into this flow of sensation.

    What is it for?
Open flow yoga is a practice of embodied self enquiry, getting to know yourself through sensitive movement. You may experience over time that your body moves with more delight, grace and ease, some would call this functional strength and mobility. If you have been under stress you may also feel that the practice builds more resilience as your nervous system finds its way back into a more balanced stress response. You may even gain insights into your own nature that makes you feel like you have made some kind of progress in yoga. However, these are not goals set by the teacher but more like side effects of your own process. To the teacher you arrive to class perfect, complete and whole as you are. The teachers job is not to provide answers but to ask good questions that spark your own curiosity and exploration.

The only real outcome of the practice is thus a deepening of your enquiry into what is happening here and now, in and as your body. Yoga in this approach is an engagement with the world rather than a retreat from it. By honoring the body we have today and by practicing together to support each other we let go, at least a little, of the pressure to perform or improve. Is it possible to really appreciate this life and this body in all its variation, just as it is?

    Where does it come from?
Like any other approach to yoga posture practice Open Flow Yoga draws inspiration from several sources. Some of them are: Yoga Somatics, developmental movement, Fascial Flow, Dynamic Yoga and the fluid teachings of Angela Farmer.

  • Urban Retreat: Sensitivity (Copenhagen)

    Urban Retreat: Sensitivity (Copenhagen)

In yoga we are often encouraged to listen to our body, but not always supported in inquiring further about what that means for us. What sensations should we just surrender to and what sensations call for action and change? How do we learn to recognize and feel what happens in the body more clearly and deeply? What are the benefits of placing sensitivity to physical sensation at the heart of your practice?

Join the inquiry in this urban retreat with three slow-flowing yoga classes. Book as a 9 hour mini-course or just pop by for individual classes. Max 10 people in each class to ensure time for detailed instruction sensitive to the needs of your body.

The classes are especially suited to those with an interest in the subtle, fluid and meditative aspects of yoga posture practice. When booked together, the three classes form an introduction to the basic principles of Open Flow Yoga.

The retreat takes place in Brigitte’s private yoga studio in Sluseholmen with a beautiful view to the sky and the water. If you want to combine the classes with a walk in nature, an ocean dive or lunch at a café with a friend, there are plenty of good opportunities in the area. Birgitte will provide tea and a little snack after each class.

    Program:

Friday the 6th 17.30-20.30: Open Flow Restore

A quiet restorative practice where we stay close to the floor. We will use slow and gentle movements to release and soften the tissues and supported yoga postures to relax and release unnecessary tension. We will work with the principles of yielding to earth and engaging subtle pre-movements.

Saturday the 7th 9.30-12.30: Open Flow Sensitize

A soft and continuous movement meditation, tuning you into your ability to feel physical sensation and inviting it to guide your movements. We will work with the principles of sensitization, moving from what we can feel rather than from what we can train ourselves to do. The class explores fluctuating, unwinding movements that hydrate and soften tissues while inviting you to reconnect with your inner teacher.

Sunday the 8th 9.30-12.30:  Open Flow Energize

A dynamic and meditative practice where we allow the playful aspect of open Flow Yoga to emerge from our connection with gravity. We will integrate the practices of yielding and sensitizing in open flows with more energizing movements such as osscilations and waves. The class may incorporate more classical yoga posture flows, giving it a sensitive and creative twist.

Price: Full weekend 749 DKR. Single class 298 DKR

Booking: Send an email to Birgitte about available tickets (see email at the very bottom of this page). Payment by mobile 15296. Please write your name and the class you are paying for in the comment section when using mobile pay. Yoga philosophy in practice: A workshop using Big Mindbirgitte

    Contemplation Corner

    Saturday  10:00 – 11:00

The deep wisdom of yoga philosophy is not just something we find in books. It is a living and dynamic practice accessible to any human being wanting to enquire into their own nature. Birgitte facilitates a yoga philosophical enquiry using the Big Mind Process. By speaking to different aspects of ourselves, we tap into the unbounded love and wisdom within. A dialogue-based eye-opener for everyone interested in yoga as self enquiry.

    Spiral Vinyasa (master class)

    Grand Gathering

    Sunday 12:30 – 14:30

Fascia work is becoming an undeniable “new black” in the international yoga community. New focus on connective tissue, tensional integrity and elastic recoil are challenging old yoga paradigms. This workshop focuses on the spiral flow: A new form of vinyasa unwinding your body in circular movements and baby-like spinal rotations. Get ready for a playful and pleasure driven class with lots of new inspiration.

  • Open Flow: New waves in yoga (Copenhagen workshop)

Open Flow: New waves in yoga (Copenhagen workshop)

A day of exploring new, delicious movements in your practice. The practice of yoga is in continuous variation, like water running through the cracks and curves of a landscape. At the fringe of  present reinventions in modern postural yoga we find approaches working with sensation-based movement and open-ended, unstructured flows. This workshop is an embodied enquiry into feeling and following internal movements arising from the wisdom of your own body and exploring yoga postures as natural extensions of the impulse to move towards delight. Birgitte will introduce movements such as wave-like undulations, rhythmic oscillations and slow-motion chaotic fluctuations and help you explore their different impacts in your body and your practice. The workshop begins with a series of movement-experiments, using the open flow technique of “myofascial unwinding” to find, feel and follow natural flows in your body. The second half of the workshop takes place as a collective dive into a continuous movement meditation. The workshop is inspired by old yoga pioneers and informed by new perspectives on human anatomy. It thus stands on the solid shoulders of modern postural yoga while curiously questioning it´s mainstream paradigm of straight lines, static postures and intense stretching.
To ensure quality of the teaching the workshop is limited to 10 people. The workshop is open to all.

  • Open Flow: Yoga for Fascial Release

Open Flow: Yoga for Fascial Release

Fascia are the thin elastic tissues that envelop every part of your body into an interconnected whole.  For the last two decades, yogis have approached fascial release mainly through long passive stretching or applying static pressure with balls and foam rollers.  Recently, however, we are seeing a global wave of new approaches working with fascia through slow, subtle movements, muscular action and unstructured flows. Fascia work is becoming an undeniable “new black” in the international yoga community.

Birgitte will guide you through a softly flowing practice where movement arise out of deeply felt sensation. The practice awakens a more supple form of strength and flexibility similar to the kind you see in little babies. We will explore moving in ways that challenge your habituated patterns of neatly aligned yoga postures and allow you to tap into the creative repertoire of your very own body. The class alternates between structured movement-enquiries done together and slow open flows that invite you to explore your own internal experience of the body.

Birgitte is there to facilitate the wisdom of your feeling body so you can hear its gentle messages more clearly. Therefore, the workshop will be experience based, meaning 100% practice and 0% theory! Birgitte is happy to discuss theoretical implications and yoga anatomy after the workshop but will not get you in your head while you are working on the yoga mat.

    YogaSOMATICS: Freedom & Containment

The instinct for freedom beats deeply in the heart of every yogi and yogini.

The longing for containment and connection pulses within every living being.

This workshop is a practical and poetic introduction to how energy naturally moves and flows in your own living body, and offers introspective practices for embodiment, grounding and centering for wellbeing.

Through movement, yoga asana, breathing and relaxation techniques, we will explore:

-How the energetic system of the body forms chakras, meridians and other energetic channels that contribute to how our bodies take shape and form, and also trans-form.
-Inner exercises for circulating “prana” (vital life force energy) towards your root, hara, heart and crown.
-Asana and somatic movements for bringing awareness to the entire spine and enhancing awareness of its own natural energetic currents and fluid tides.
-The life movements of involution and expansion and the yoga asanas that facilitate resiliency in the flux and flow of life.
-Deep relaxation and healing breathing practices that attune your awareness towards the movements of your energetic body.
-A practice of myofascial unwinding that softly and gently helps to restore your myofascial/connective tissue to a state of healthy natural resiliency.   You will learn how myofascial unwinding can be an useful preparation for more advanced yoga asanas.

  • Yoga embodied – Retreat in Portugal

Yoga embodied – Retreat in Portugal

Join us for a week in the beautiful mountains of Portugal. Birgitte will teach a yoga retreat supporting a somatic self-inquiry on your mat with slow, deep posture flows, sensitive and natural breath release and sweet bedtime meditations.
The yoga posture practice is based on continuous movements that gradually deepen your sensitivity to sensation and invite you to listen to the teacher within. Morning classes begin with a seated pranayama practice and transitions into a soft vinyasa flow teaching balanced muscular activity to support your joints while strengthening and mobilizing the whole of your body. Afternoons offer a more quiet and meditative flow releasing connective tissue and nervous system.
Two evenings we will play with the Big Mind process inviting you to collectively reflect and work with what comes up in your practice during the retreat. Big Mind was developed by Zen Master Genpo Roshi and takes place as a dialogue between the facilitator and the group. The Big Mind work allows you to tap into the wisdom within by giving voice to undiscovered aspects of the self.

    The teachers retreat (sold out)

Teaching yoga is a rewarding job in itself. It is also a job that takes a little extra. The originality and freshness of your teaching comes from the depth of your living practice. This retreat helps you find ways to teach from your body rather than from knowledge or belief. It is also an opportunity to get inspiration and peer support to help you thrive in your working life. We are open for trained (and trainee) yoga teachers from all branches of the yoga family tree. The retreat is not a training in any particular approach to yoga. Instead, we will refine the way you translate the feeling intelligence of your own body into verbal instructions, finding your own voice.

You will receive 25 hours of teaching in 3,5 days, deepening your somatic understanding of yoga posture practice.

Boolking by Mobile Pay 28892450 or electronig invoicing. Write an email to info@dynamicyoga.dk  informing briefly about your training and teaching experience. Also name one area in your working life in which you feel the need for support.

Each day begins early with a quiet sitting followed by a long flow-based yoga class addressing the theme of the day. You will learn to activate your body in a way that supports feeling sensation as the compass for your practice (as oposed to learning fixed principles of alignment or traditional “full” postures). Birgitte will take you through a structured sequence of classes based on becoming a little more sensitive to the changes in sensation within you. This way of teaching is an invitation for you to access an intelligent response to what you can feel from the wisdom of your own body. Each day will sensitize specific joints of the body and invite you to listen deeply to what they have to say.

Afternoons will focus on somatic self-enquiry and/or refining your teaching skills. Guided experiments on the mat will help you explore the difference between “action” and “impact” in yoga postures to help you get clearer about how instructions could be more helpful for your students. You will be introduced to two levels of verbal instruction useful to promote safety, clarity and depth in your teaching. You will spend time in groups clarifying muscular actions and their impacts in the body and playing with layers of instruction.

Asana as meditation – meditation as asana (Copenhagen)

A three-part workshop open to all. Our common sense understanding of the words “yoga” and “meditation” suggest that they are two separate things: One of the body and one of the mind. But as we go deeper into the practice either one, we find a deeper unity at their core.

A dynamic yoga class exploring sensitive movement as  meditation in action.

    Saturday 14.30-17.30: Meditation as Asana
Alternations between seated meditation periods and supine yoga posture flows releasing tension.

    Sunday 10.00-13.00: Breathing into stilness
A dynamic, sensitive yoga posture flow releasing the free rythm of the breath (svaramukta). The class makes a seamless transiton to a seated meditation practice towards the end.

  • Making friends with “monkey mind”

    Making friends with “monkey mind”

“Monkey mind” is the part of you that fills your head with chatter and throws peanuts in your face when you are trying to “do yoga” or sit in meditation. Monkey mind is playing up when we find ourself lying awake in bed, when we put the toothpaste in the refrigerator or when we spend an entire yoga class thinking about…whatever! This workshop will help you make friends with your monkey mind, getting the benefit of its power, strength and speed rather than trying to tie it down. We begin with a facilitated dialogue with the part of our mind that is wild and unruly and sometimes disturbs us in our daily life. From there we slide on to the yoga mat for a softly flowing posture practice, relaxation and seated meditation.

The workshop is open to anyone, especially if you sometimes feel disturbed by your thinking mind.

  • Urban Retreat: Deepening (Copenhagen)

    Urban Retreat: Deepening (Copenhagen)

Yoga is no longer just the privilege of meditating cave men. Modern yogis live engaged lives full of relationships and responsibility. This sometimes leaves us with an apparent dilemma of balancing our time for practice and “normal life”. Instead of seeing yoga as the art of balancing two separate things, this series og mini-workshops will approach yoga as an invitation to intimacy with what is here. Perhaps yoga practice is not something “other” than our daily activities, but rather an invitation to become one with them. Using your body as a doorway, we explore the underlying unity between apparent separations. Perhaps, your practice really is no other than your life.

Contrary to the traditional yoga retreat, an urban retreat invites you to bring the depth of your yoga practice into the city space, your social comitments and relationships. It takes place in the beautiful Metropolis Yoga Shala at Sluseholmen, an undisturbed city space with plenty of open sky and ocean view, yet only 15 minutes from the center of the city. Each day we will dive deeper into yoga posture flows and meditation allowing you to tune into the subtle delight of being deeply present in the body. Parts of the retreat will take place in practical silence, part of it will take place in lively dialouge.

  • Retreat in Greece (Donation retreat for refugees in Greece)

Our autumn Dynamic Yoga intensive takes place in the island of Lesvos. Practice yoga in one of the most beautiful, well-kept yoga shalas in Europe. Milelja retreat center has been hosting retreats for nearly 30 years in a homely and intimate atmosphere, plunged right in between the deep blue Mediterranean and the rough volcanic mountains. We welcome students of all levels and branches of the yoga family tree. You will be given a carefully sequenced somatic education that takes you straight to the subtle heart of yoga posture practice.

In response to the current situation at the coastlines in Southern Europe, this retreat will donate all revenue to organized care for the refugees arriving in Lesbos. For each new participant booking after september 1st we will donate 399 EUR of your payment to care (corresponding with the amount you pay for the yoga sessions). We are in weekly contact with Milelja retreat center to get news of the local area. As we are located in the country side remote from the large roads, things are peaceful and tranquil at the retreat center itself. If you wish to bring and donate blankets, clothes or sleeping bags we will help you distribute this to local organizers.

    A typical day:

Each day will begin with a sunrise pranayama session in our warm, wooden yoga hall. From sitting in silence we then rool directly on to the yoga mat for a slow-flowing, dynamic posture practice landing in relaxation and seated meditation. Over the week Birgitte will guide you through 6 progressive practices allowing you to sensitize, recalibrate, mobilize and strengthen your body without struggle or pain. After the morning practice our hosts will serve a full vegetarian brunch buffet (fresh local produce is used whenever possible). Morning yoga is nice to do on an empty stomach. However, if you do need to eat a little breakfast before the morning classes we have fruit, nuts or müsli available in the dining room early in the morning and during the day if you need a snack.

The afternoon sessions will alternate between longer workshops or shorter gentle yoga classes. The workshops will help you clarify the Dynamic Yoga Training Method to make sure it works for the body you have today. Here we will do little explorations together through dialogue and partner work ending with a gentle floor-practice and preparing you to dive deeper the next day. The shorter yoga classes are to nourish and relax you by tuning in to the subtle presence of body and breath. On days with shorter sessions you have some free time between brunch and afternoon class where you can rest, chill at the pool, hike or explore the beautiful nature of the north island. Some days the retreat center arranges a hot pool dip for muscle relaxation. You can also book a massage or treatment in the in-house wellness clinic.

Most nights we will gather for an early home cooked dinner at the retrerat center. For the first and last evening of the retreat we will eat out. The old village of Molyvos is just 20 minutes away by foot and kept in its original narrow streets and stone cottages with lots of lovely tavernas and cafes.

Evenings you will be given the space to sit in silent meditation with the rest of the group before going off to bed. We sit in intervals ranging from 15 to 60 minutes depending on your experience and training. Everyone is free to drop quietly in or out of the yoga hall. Instructions will be given on how to sit comfortably either on a cushion or a chair if  needed.

We offer practical silence periods between 22.00 and 7.30 each day (meaning we go quiet, but of course can ask questions or give practical messages). Meditation and silence periods are optional. They are offered as an opportunity to deepen your practice if you have the interest. If you want to take an offline detox from your electronic communication we can fully support that. For those who need to use email, intenret or skype their loved ones during the retreat we have a free wifi zone near the pool deck.

1 space left in the Greece retreat! (April 7-14th 2015)

We are going again! Get ready for a Dynamic Yoga intensive in the island of Lesvos. Practice yoga in one of the most beautiful, well-kept yoga shalas in Europe. Every wooden nail is hammered in with love!

Our spring intensive takes place April 7-14th 2015 (for flight flexibility we offer check in already on the 6th of april, giving you an extra day of rest before we begin)

• Urban Retreat: The Unity Workshop Series (Oct. 9-11th, Copenhagen)

As we grow up, we learn to experience our bodies through distinctions. Pain/pleasure, right/left, up/down, inner/outer, self/other are all distinctions necessary for us to navigate in the world. In the same way that we lose the sound of background noise when we are following a conversation, we can easily lose cover up the inherent unity the lies behind our feeling of separateness and distinction. Yoga posture practice is an invitation to rediscover the unity or totality underlying our experience. Practicing yoga from the perspective of unity is not to unite or “put together” something that was once separate. Rather, we will enquire into the possibility of uncovering the indivisible unity upon which our sense of separateness has been conjured.

Birgitte will teach a series of workshops from the perspective of unity. Every workshop includes a long flow-based yoga class, relaxation and seated meditation. Each workshop starts the journey of integration from different parts of the body to give you a step-by-step progression of experiencing how they are interconnected into an indivisible whole. We will be balancing activity and release in physical postures and we will be working with movement and stillness to clarify the unity of yoga. Every workshops ends with a cup of tea and a dialogue.

You can book each workshop individually or combine as you see fit. A discount is given for those who book all 4 workshops as an urban retreat. Students coming from outside Copenhagen are free to stay overnight in the yoga room. If you are booking both Saturday classes, we will order in a vegetarian lunch for you for appr. 100 DKR

  • Sensitivity: The subtle heart of yoga

Sensitivity: The subtle heart of yoga

Sensations are the inner compass of yoga posture practice. Everything you learned, everything you know, everything do rests on your ability to feel sensation.Feeling is not the same as knowing, observing or labelling what is happening within you. When yoga posture practice takes us deeper than knowledge and internal discourse we come face to face with the teacher within. This intimate evening workshop gives an introduction to Dynamic Yoga as a sensation-based practice. A series of moon salutations landing in supine and prone postures help you go quiet by feeling deeply what is happening in your body. The class ends in a long relaxation and a short seated meditation.

Open to all interested in yoga and/or meditation.

A full day workshop open to all from beginner yogis to meditation masters (or vice versa).

A gentle three-hour flow prepares you for shoulder inversions through the practice of chandra namaskar (moon salutation), activating and integrating the body for inversions while releasing the neck and shouders. Jo Kemp is one of the five senior teachers of Dynamic Yoga, in February she will stop by Copenhagen to share it with us. Check out Jo’s website here

    Saturday 9.30 a.m – 1.30 p.m: The Spine

The spine is central to our movement and experience. When the spine is carrying unhelpful and habitual postural and movement patterns the experience of our body can be less than pleasurable and we can often find ourselves in pain and discomfort or lacking in mobility.

If yoga posture practice is to release us from the imprints of life held within our structure and musculature, e.g.  high shoes, bags on one shoulder, accumulation of hours on the computer, it needs to be undertaken with a keen sense of listening to the whispers of sensation within the spine. In this workshop we initiate a vital sensitization of the mind to the spine, exploring specific sequencing to bring release to muscles that may overwork, and awaken muscles that may be inactive. Within the arena of yoga posture practice and pranayama we are guided to a deepened level of intimacy  to what’s actually happening in our unique body mind, moving towards balancing, mobilizing and finally strengthening the spine.

The workshop will include, posture practice, pranayama, relaxation and clarifying discussion, exploration and demonstration.

Suitable for all levels of practitioner from those newly exploring yoga to advanced practitioners and teachers.

    Sunday 9.30 a.m- 1.30 p.m:   Sadhana – Deepening practice

Subtle yet powerful, with inquiry at the very heart of the practice, this workshop proves valuable and insightful for students, practioners and teachers from all styles and levels of practice.

Using skillful Vinyasa Krama (progressive instruction), intelligent and effective sequencing of Asana, movement and Pranayama, this workshop invites you into feeling and experiencing the deeper, less explored areas of posture practice, taking us via body and breath beyond belief and acquired knowledge  into a steady and continuous flow of simply experiencing the wisdom of the body expressing itself in any given moment. When the intelligence of the mind free from agenda and imposition  meets the body deeply, the apparent split between the two dissolves and Yoga is !!

The workshop will include, posture practice, pranayama, relaxation , sitting and  shared group inquiry…

  • Workshop: Movement and meditation

    Workshop: Movement and meditation

Yoga and meditation are often seen as two distinct and separate practices. One dynamic and physical and the other still and mental. However, both practices are an invitation to experience the unity within body and awareness. This three-hour workshop will explore meditaton and yoga posture practice as an undivided whole through movement, breath and stilness.

Both yoga postures and meditation will be guided as invitations to become deeply present to what is actually happening here and now. We begin and end the class in seated meditation. The two rounds of sitting will be connected by a simple and nourishing flow of yoga postures taking you deeper in your experience of body and awareness.

The workshop is open to everyone, from beginners to the most advanced

  • Dynamic Yoga Backbends (Stockholm)

    Dynamic Yoga Backbends (Stockholm)

The advantages of doing backbends in yoga are many, especially for us bent-over westerners who tend to get stuck at the desk in a forward bend for many hours a day. This workshop allows you to enjoy a sensitive step-by-step journey into back bending where the opening up in the front of the body goes hand in hand with a loving care for your lower back and other soft spots. “Opening your heart” as it is often said in yoga is not just a matter of pushing into more and more crazy postures. It’s rather about embracing what is actually happening within you right here and now. Birgitte will guide two classes that take different approaches to backbends as a way of feeling and responding lovingly to the whole of your being.

The classes are open to all from beginners to the most advanced and can be booked individually or together as you see fit.

    Program

    10.00 – 13.00 Loving the lower back.
A long and energizing flow of postures teaching you how to support the lower back as you begin to open the front of your body. This class prepares you for backbends by teaching you how to activate the whole of your body to protect the vulnerability of your joints.

    14.00 – 17.00 Opening the heart.
A meditative three-hour flow will take you through a progressive series of backbends, closing with a deep release of the spine. As the class progress, supported alternatives will be given to those who have reached the limit of their capacity.

Price: 450 swedish kroner for one class. 800 for both

  • Asana as Bandha (Malmö)

    Asana as Bandha (Malmö)

The bandhas are often taught as techniques to “lock” or harness the energy of the body. But when practiced sensitively they have a much deeper power to integrate and “unlock” your being in the body and invite you to experience the inherent unity of yoga. This is by no means mystical, esoteric or difficult. Activating the bandhas is a natural response of the body when doing yoga postures (asana) with integrity. Practicing asana as bandha is an invitation cross the threshold from experiencing yoga postures as just being physical “shapes” to acessing the subtle energetic resonance within them all. This workshop will explore the bandhas as an organic and natural event in your body rather than a separate “technique”. You will be guided towards physical and energetic integration in four sessions. We will mainly be engaged in flowing yoga posture practice but the workshop also offers a bit of group work and pranayama practice.

    Friday 19.00-21.30: Softening

Soak into softness with a gentle floor practice of spinal extensions, gentle backbends and twists. The class teaches you to access the deep spinal muscles and invite release into the core of your body. This yummy evening practice is highly recommended as a preparation for the weekend workshop “asana as bandha” and suitable for everyone.

    Price: 350 SEK    book here>>>

    Saturday-Sunday 9.30-16.30: Asana as bandha

9:30 to 12:30: Dynamic yoga class, relaxation and seated meditation

13:30 to 16:30: Afternoon clarification and a soft yoga class

    Price: 1600 kr     book here>>>

Sunday 17.00-18.30: Bandhas for yoga teachers

There will be an extra class for yogateachers clarifying the teaching methodology behind the workshop. Which instructions are key to activating the bandhas within a posture flow? How to sequence a class focusing on the bandhas? Why are the bandhas important and what are their implications for the yoga posture practice? What are the common misunderstandings about the bandhas? The afternoon class will take place in dialouge and little explorations on your yoga mat.

  • Being Bliss Weekend (Miami, South Beach)

Being Bliss Weekend (Miami, South Beach)

Bliss (“Ānanda”) is a word often used in relation to yoga. But the bliss that yoga has to offer is much more than a brief peak of ecstasy or a temporary pit stop in relaxation. Ānanda, by contrast, is a baseline for being conscious and alive. You don’t need flexibility, strength or yogic superpowers to access the subtle experience of being bliss. All you need is to deeply feel your body – just as it is. These four classes invite you to take the plunge into the quiet world of sensation to uncover the subtle heart of yoga within the body you have today. Especially suited for beginners AND extremely advanced yogis/meditators.

The four classes can be booked individually or as a progressive series going from the obvious to the subtle aspects of yoga posture practice.

    Friday 7.00-9.30 pm: Softening
Soak into softness with a gentle floor practice of spinal extensions, rotations and twists. The class teaches you to access the deep spinal muscles and invite release into the core of your body.

    Saturday 2-5 pm: Feeling
Sensitivity is the ultimate compass of a nourishing yoga posture practice. Feeling your way through moon salutations, standing postures and seated backbends takes you step by step into the delight of being deeply present in the body. The focus of the class is to sensitize all of your joints so your body can teach you how to balance activity and release.

    Sunday 1.00 – 3.00. Opening
Sun salutations like you´ve never done them before! Often squeezed in as a warm-up or transition between postures the true potential of this classical practice easily gets overlooked. A deep and continuous flow takes you from basic to advanced variations without pain or struggle. The activation of the whole of your body supports the opening quality of backbends and forward bends and invites you to feel the vibrant aliveness of the spine.

    Sunday 4.00-6.30: Being
A series of inverted, supine and seated postures allows you to settle into quiet stillness as we hold gentle postures for longer periods of time. The class may include restorative variations using blankets, blocks and bolsters to support you in exploring the subtle heart of sensation. We close the practice with a guided meditation.

The Workshop takes place in Synergy Yoga, Miami’s first and oldest yoga studio.  Booing and prices coming up at the Synergy website

    Sun Salutation Workshop (Århus)

Releasing the natural rythm of the breath in a continous flow is an invitation for your mind to go quiet and enjoy the flow. This workshop is in danish only. A few english instructions can be given if needed.

    Being Bliss – weekend workshop

Bliss “Ānanda” is a word we often hear in relation to yoga. This does not mean that yoga will draw you into a “blissed out” hypnotic trance state. Ānanda is much more than a brief peak of wild ecstasy or a quick pit stop in final relaxation. Ānanda is a ground state, a baseline for being conscious and alive. Its subtle universal quality is always available whether you are sad or happy, in pain or in love, grieving or celebrating. Its not the light at the end of the yoga-tunnel. Bliss is your birth name.

    Saturday morning 10.00 – 13.00: Tuning in
This slow-flowing class invites you to take the plunge into a quiet world of physical sensation. By effortless action and soft movements we flow through a simple vinyasa sequence of standing, inverted and supine postures. You will be invited to feel the subtle sensations of your body, thereby inviting a quiet, soft experience of being conscious bliss (Sat Cit Ānanda).

    Saturday afternoon  14.00-17.00 Exploring
After lunch we will have a brief exploration of the techniques used in the morning practice. Little experiments on the mat help you clarify how yoga posture practice can be an invitation to go deeper without pain or struggle. We close the day with a soft yoga class on the back and shoulders.

    Sunday morning 10.00 – 13.00 Letting go
This morning class will be taught as a soft, meditative flow. You will be guided slowly through a series of supine, prone and sitting postures ending in two rounds of seated meditation. The sequence invites you to access your innate blissful being state.

    Godfri Devereux

Godfrey Devereux has been teaching and practicing yoga for over 40 years and his contribution to the art and science of yoga is unique and remarkable. His discoveries and developments are numerous, ongoing and allow yoga to be experienced without reference to esotericism or unverifiable concepts. Unintimidated by the ideologies and hierarchies of tradition he has been able to cast clear light not only on the subtleties of yoga practice, but also on the nature of the body-mind relationship and the significance of human consciousness.

Godfrey’s pioneering journey into the roots of human experience is grounded in a lifetime of yoga practice on mat and cushion that began when he was 16 years old. Fertilised by professional training in Child Development and Education, Oriental Medicine, and dedicated study with masters of Zen, Advaita and Tantra as well as Indian Yoga Gurus, Godfrey’s practice has brought him to a deep, lucid intimacy with the subtleties of being human within which its apparent paradoxes are all heart-warmingly resolved.

At the heart of his teaching is a presentation of yoga as unity, rather than union, intelligence not knowledge.

    Feel-good-yoga

APRIL 12:  Human intelligence as the key to life and yoga (talk).

This talk will explore the depths and subtleties of human intelligence to contextualise and fertilise yoga and meditation practice and their relevance to daily life. It will explore the three aspects of human intelligence and their interrelationships: somatic, cerebral and spiritual.

APRIL 13: SOMATIC MEDITATION WORKSHOP   (10.00-18.00)

To become intimate with the subtle presence and nature of the body is to become able to be intimate with mind and consciousness. Only then is it possible to fully integrate the intelligence and power of consciousness with that of mind, so that mental activity can be grounded in the nondual intelligence of consciousness. This workshop will present a progressive methodology for accessing the nondual, impersonal intelligence of consciousness from the body. No prior meditative experience required.

APRIL 14  TANTRA YOGA WORKSHOP   (10.00-1800)

The postural practices of Hatha Yoga have their origins in Tantra. The Tantric approach to life regards the body as a temple,  and its sexuality as an expression of spiritual energy. The systematic sensitisation of the bodimind through subtle, sensitive action can be used to access, awaken and integrate the subtle energy body. In doing so core sexual energy  is released as a healing, nourishing circulation throughout the whole body that enlivens and harmonises both body and mind. This workshop will explore the somatic practices (asana, bandha, mudra and pranayama) that unlock the healing power of sexual energy as a process of deep psychosomatic and spiritual release.

  • Jo Kemp: Shoulder-inversions

    Jo Kemp: Shoulder-inversions

Senior Dynamic Teacher Jo Kemp is back in Copenhagen with three sweet sessions on shoulder inversions. For the exact timetable, prices and more info, Contact info@kbhyogaa.dk

This workshop will take us on a vinyasa krama (step by step progression) of shoulder inversions. Often just squeezed in at the end of a practise, the benefits of inversions can be overlooked. They are a potent means to pacifying and providing complete rest to the cellular structure of the whole body, while simultaneously lending to an experience of internalisation and release.

    Friday February 15th. 5 – 8pm.
The first session begins with a specific sequence to sensitize, awaken and prepare the body for going up on the shoulders. Guided using layers of instruction so that the body can develop pathways, assimilate and deepen ones capacity for coming and being on the shoulders with integrity. Whether you are very comfortable on your shoulders or have never been up on them you will benefit from understanding how to sequentially prepare the body, so that when you do come up your experience is a nourishing and pleasurable one.

    Saturday February 16th. 9 – 12am
In the second session we gather a little more momentum and move through a complete practise sequence that takes us from preparation and into actually being on the shoulders, journeying into the different shoulder stand variations as they are interweaved into the practice. The shoulder inversions take us deeper into understanding how to use the arms in relation to the shoulders and spine. They develop the wrists and arms and they soften and awaken the spine in easy gentle forward and back bending shapes. The nourishing supportive arena of being upside down leads us towards an experience of effortless integration and we can benefit greatly from the heart been rested over the head.

    Saturday February 16th. 1 – 5pm.
The third session begins with a short presentation (where you will be able to see many of the inversions you have been taken through in the morning). Followed by a question and answer time, with plenty of opportunity to gain individual feedback and clarification.
Each session includes posture practice, relaxation, some sitting and a little dialogue.
The first session is beneficial as a stand-alone experience, yet to attend the third session students need to have attended session 1 and 2

  • Activating the spine (malmö)

    Activating the spine (malmö)

Strengthening the deep spinal muscles is a key to going deeper in yoga posture practice for beginners and advanced students alike. A strong spine allows you to release unnecessary tension in the core of the body and soften into even more challenging postures. Releasing tension in the core of the body is also one of the ways in which yoga posture practice can bring about a deep nourishment. This class will explore the possibilities of activating the spine in a slow, deep flow of spinal extensions and rotations. The practice invites the body to breathe freely, the internal organs to be nourished and the mind to take a well deserved rest. The beginning of the class will explore  the possibility of release through action in a dynamic flow of  chandra namaskar (moon salutation) and a couple of standing rotations. The class ends by letting go into soft, nourishing flow of seated and supine rotations.  After a long guided relaxation we land in seated meditation and a little dialogue, clarifying the impacts and effects of softening the core.

  • Weekend workshop: Asana as Bandha (Hornbæk)

Weekend workshop: Asana as Bandha (Hornbæk)

This workshop is in Danish, but may shift to English if needed. Focus is on establishing the bandhas as an integrated part of any yoga posture. The bandhas are essential in yoga posture practice, not only because they protect the joints and stabilize the core of the body. Practicing asana as bandha is an invitation cross the threshold from mere posturing and enter into the subtle depths of yoga. Rather than giving you knowledge about the physical, psychological and energetic effects of the bandhas this workshop will give you the tools to explore them in practice and experience firsthand their energetic and subtle effects. The aim of the workshop is to explore how the bandhas are not just about tension and stability but also about deep release and integration.

    to enquire more, write info@dynamicyoga.dk

Yoga invites us to enquire into our deepest nature (svadhyaya). Driven by a need for security we sometimes allow this enquiry to depend on external authorities, principles or schools.  But underneath the noisy surface of opinions, pre-packaged thinking, and expert-authority lays an inner compass that never fails:  Your body and the ability to feel it. Two long, slow flowing yoga classes will sensitize, move and replenish your body and introduce you to the teacher within.

  • Advanced teacher training days with Godfrey Devereux: “Why Yoga can’t hurt you”

Advanced teacher training days with Godfrey Devereux: “Why Yoga can’t hurt you”

Recently there has been much debate among yoga teachers on whether yoga posture practice causes injury. The short answer is no. Yoga, if approached as a practice of self-enquiry and not self-improvement is a journey into sensitivity and can neither wreck your body, nor that of your students. Teaching based on anatomical knowledge and fixed principles of alignment is a good start, but for your students to practice safely they have to act on their internal sensation rather than your external authority. Leading a sensation-based yoga class is not only a safe approach to teaching, it is also an efficient method by which your students can become fully present in their practice.

Day one : Sensation-based posture practice: Letting your body guide your actions on the mat.

Day two: Teaching sensation-based posture practice: Guiding your students by internal sensations rather than geometry, knowledge or principle.

Each day begins with a long master class taught by Godfrey. The class will then be broken down to show the methodology behind the practice and give you inspiration to use the method in your own teaching.

  • A Radical Enquiry With Godfrey Devereux

A Radical Enquiry With Godfrey Devereux

A RADICAL ENQUIRY INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF FREEDOM
    awakening to your inner wisdom

Your mind is heavy with unexamined ideas, unsubstantiated beliefs, unchallenged prejudices, unquestioned assumptions. Their presence in your unconscious drives the shape and content of your conscious experience. Only when they have been resolved in the light of your own clear seeing can you awaken to genuine freedom, and enjoy the peace of deep, unconditional contentment. This is not a matter of accepting any concept, belief, dogma or doctrine. It is a question of seeing for yourself the way things actually are. This can only be done if you are able to put aside all the veils that obscure the light of your own wisdom.

Taking place as a dialogue between your unconscious and your conscious mind the Radical Enquiry will painstakingly and systematically expose, discredit and dismantle the false ideas, beliefs, prejudices and assumptions by which your wisdom, happiness and freedom are habitually obscured. As they fall away they take with them the roots and possibility of shame, guilt, resentment, contempt, pride, regret, manipulation, hostility, animosity, exploitation, blame, anxiety and despair. All you need do is hear clearly and acknowledge fully with your own mind the truth that lies in your own heart. Within the clear and simple framework of the Radical Enquiry this is very easy to do.

The Radical Enquiry takes place in gradual, progressive stages each one bringing you closer to the peace of a radical and permanent freedom. It is conducted by Godfridev who has been helping seekers to discover the light of their inner wisdom for over 30 years. From the light of his deep wisdom he will serve as a mirror in which you will be able to find the depth and power of your own wisdom, freedom and happiness.

The day wil be divided into three parts with a break in between each session. Bring your own meditation chair or pillow.
