    Fordyb dig i en uges intensiv yoga og lær dig selv og din krop bedre at kende. På kurset er der fokus på essensen af yoga, der handler om at afdække sin dybere natur for at kunne navigere i livet med frihed, robusthed og medfølelse. Du vil lære at arbejde sansebaseret med yoga, så du bedre kan mærke kroppen indefra og respondere på dens behov, både når du dyrker yoga og i dagligdagen.

    Med udgangspunkt i yogaens historie og filosofi, vil du komme til at arbejde både med det stille og fordybende og med det dynamiske aktive aspekt af yoga. Formiddagen vil fokusere på kontinuerlige flows. Her flyder vi på åndedrættet gennem enkle yogastillinger som alle kan være med på, sådan at du lærer at bruge dynamisk bevægelse som meditation. Eftermiddagen vil kombinere blide og langsomme yogaklasser med siddende meditation og afspænding. På hver klasse vil der være lidt tid til spørgsmål og dialoger, der perspektiverer til yogaens filosofi og historie. 

    Kurset vil primært være praksisorienteret, men der vil også være teoretiske oplæg, så du får mere indgående kendskab til de mangfoldige aspekter ved denne ældgamle praksisform. Alle kan være med, og du behøver ikke kende til yoga forud for kurset. Medbring gerne egen yogamåtte, ellers kan du låne af skolen.

    Workshop: Sensory Flow Yoga 

    The Sensory Flow is a deeply nourishing, meditative and gentle vinyasa class, supporting you act on what you can feel. In a continuous, circular flow of relatively easy yoga postures, Birgitte will guide you to explore the subtle nature of physical sensations arising and dissolving as you move, breathe and relax. By inviting you to practice with no need for self-improvement, we open the door to yoga posture practice as an ever deepening, somatic self-enquiry. The perfect class if you love flow-based yoga and want to deepen the subtle aspects of your practice while recharging your batteries for the rest of the weekend. 

    Workshop: Open Flow Yoga: 

    Tune into your own felt sense of the body and allow your movements to arise from within. In this class we will explore a non-linear and open flow where yoga postures arise and dissolve as a spontaneous process. We will enquire into yoga as a practice that is given to you from the wisdom of your very own body as an alternative to taking yourself into shapes or states. Birgitte will guide you through a fluctuating movement meditation inviting you to explore a deep listening to your body´s capacity and need. The Open Flow will stay close to the earth and land softy in a guided relaxation. The perfect beginning to a full weekend of amazing yoga.   

    Talk: The sensory turn 

    In the past decade, yoga communities around the world are turning towards an exploration of yoga an inner, sensory practice. In short, we are getting a lot more interested in how yoga feels and perhaps a little less interested in how it looks. While the sensory enquiry of yoga finds its roots deep in the yoga tradition, its current resurrection seems to also gain momentum from recent changes in western societies and new anatomical knowledge. Birgitte will outline the changes that point towards a sensory (re)turn as the next big wave in modern yoga and give you the helicopter view on the history and highlights of this trend.

    Sensorisk alignment: workshop for Yogalærere i Århus

    For yogalærere og instruktører

    I yoga opfordrer vi ofte eleverne til at ”lytte til kroppen”, blandt andet for at undgå skader. Men ofte har vi ikke de pædagogiske værktøjer til at lære eleven hvad det betyder i praksis. Lige nu kigger moderne yoga til sansningen af kroppen som et kompas, der kan supplere de ”one size” alignmentprincipper som vi tidligere har brugt som rettesnor. Tilbage står vi som undervisere med en ny udfordring: Nemlig at blive bedre til at lære eleven at justere sin praksis indefra og ikke kun korrigere sin praksis udefra.

    Hvilke sansninger skal vi opfordre eleven at overgive sig til og hvilke sansninger kræver handling? Hvordan lærer vi eleven selv at mærke forskellen på de to? Hvordan tilpasser vi alignmentprincipper til den enkelte, når vi står overfor en yogaklasse med 20-30 elever der alle har en unik kropsbygning og subjektiv oplevelse af kroppen? Hvad giver det eleven at arbejde systematisk med sit indre sansekompas og hvordan hænger det sammen med yogatraditionen og dens filosofier?

    På denne workshop bliver du introduceret for en metode til at træne dine elever i, at handle på det, de selv kan mærke. Du får en kropslig erfaring med sansebaseret bevægelse, samt inspiration til at introducere et sensorisk lag i dit undervisningssprog.

    Workshoppen er åben for yogalærere fra alle skoler og uddannelsesniveauer. De pædagogiske værktøjer du bliver introduceret til kan bruges på tværs af yogaformer og er ikke knyttet til en bestemt stilart. På dagen fokuserer vi dog primært på alignmentbaseret yoga i flow.

    In this talk, Birgitte will introduce “The Sensory Turn” in modern yoga: A recent and growing tendency for yoga posture practice to zoom in on sensory and embodied awareness. All over the world, yoga communities are turning towards an exploration of how yoga feels and becoming es preoccupied with how it looks.

    But is this exploration of inner body sensations a new tendency in yoga, or are we seeing a resurrection of something ancient? What recent historical changes led up to this (re)turn to yoga as a sensory practice? Why are words like “interoception”, “proprioception” and “embodiment” popping up in modern yoga literature and trainings at this particular point in history? And who were the pioneers in this movement that seems to be coming together to form a whole new wave within modern postural yoga.

    A gentle, continuous flow inviting you to feel and release into the natural rhythm of your breathing. Ullola is Sanskrit for ‘wave’ and describes a technique where we move between two or more easy yoga postures, following the flow of your own breath. Birgitte will guide you through intervals of flowing movement and restful stillness, inviting you to feel breath sensations and uncover their intimate connection to rhythms in your awareness.     Dive into a fluid and non-linear yoga practice and explore moving from deeply felt sensation. Rather than fitting your body to postures defined by a teacher, this class will invite your living, feeing, sensitive body to lead your practice from within. Birgitte will lead a flowing movement meditation where yoga posture practice arises from following the delight of being deeply present in the body. You will learn basic techniques for using fluctuating movements in your own practice and release unnecessary tension in the body. A and gentle invitation to listen, feel and respond to the wisdom within.

    Workshop i Vejen: Flow- Ullola og det frie åndedræt

    Birgitte kommer til Vejen Idrætscenter med denne aftenworkshop for dig der elsker flow-baseret yoga. På workshoppen introducerer hun dig for det frie åndedræt (svaramukta) gennem Enkle. cirkulære og bølgende flows der foregår i dit eget åndedræts rytme (ullola).

    Klassen inviterer dig til at forløse og følge dit eget naturligt åndedræt når du bevæger dig igennem de fysiske stillinger og bygger bro mellem bevægelse og meditation.

    Vi starter med en åndedrætsmeditation som vi tager med os ind i et enkelt, meditativt flow af yogastillinger der ikke kræver den store styrke eller smidighed. Flowet lander i en længere afspænding, en siddende meditation og kort snak om yoga og åndedrættet hvor du kan stille spørgsmål.

    Medbring eventuelt et ekstra tæppe og en pude/klods du kan sidde på til sidst.

    Flowing Softly: Ullola winter 4-week course (3 spaces left)

    A series of gentle morning classes awakening sensitivity through wave-like movements (ullola) following the natural rhythms of your breath. Birgitte will teach 4 progressive classes that invites you to feel more deeply and clearly what is happening in your body as you move, and how to respond to what you sense. Open to all but especially welcoming lovers of flow-based yoga (vinyasa, asthanga, hatha flow etc.) wanting to find more softness, fluidity, ease and stability in their practice. If you are a beginner you will receive a solid foundation for any kind of yoga practice, using simple and accessible postures. If you are a yoga teacher, this course will show an example of how to verbally invite students into listening more deeply to their own body when practicing classical yoga postures.

    Classes are 90 minutes long and primarily taught within the framework of the Dynamic Yoga Training Method. Birgitte may add a bit of Open Flow Yoga to unwind and release tension at the beginning or end of the class. Instructions will be given in English or Danish as required.

    The course takes place in Brigitte’s fully equipped yoga room at Sluseholmen, Copenhagen. Doors open 10 minutes prior to the class begins.

    2 workshops: OpenFlow Yoga and the sensory compass

    In yoga we are often encouraged to listen to our body, but not always supported in inquiring further about what that means for us. What sensations should we just surrender to and what sensations call for action and change? How do we learn to recognize and feel what happens in the body more clearly and deeply? What are the benefits of placing sensitivity to physical sensation at the heart of your practice?

    Join the inquiry in this urban retreat with two slow-flowing yoga classes. Book as a 6-hour mini course or just pop by for individual classes. Max 10 people in each class to ensure time for detailed instruction sensitive to the needs of your body.

    The classes are especially suited to those with an interest in the subtle, fluid and meditative aspects of yoga posture practice.

    The retreat takes place in Brigitte’s private yoga studio in Sluseholmen with a beautiful view to the sky and the water. If you want to combine the classes with a walk in nature, an ocean dive or lunch at a café with a friend, there are plenty of good opportunities in the area. Birgitte will provide tea and a little snack after each class.

    A soft and continuous movement meditation, tuning you into your ability to feel physical sensation and inviting it to guide your movements. We will work with the principles of sensitization, moving from what we can feel rather than from what we can train ourselves to do. The class explores fluctuating, unwinding movements that hydrate and soften tissues while inviting you to reconnect with your inner teacher.

    Saturday April 25t 14.00-17.00: Open Flow Restore

    A quiet restorative practice where we stay close to the floor. We will use slow and gentle movements to release and soften the tissues and supported yoga postures to relax and release unnecessary tension. We will work with the principles of yielding to earth and engaging subtle pre-movements. The class will include a guided yoga Nidra and a seated meditation.

    Uddannelsen er til dig der vil:

    • skærpe det sensoriske og sansebaserede aspekt af din undervisning
    • støtte dine elever i, selv at handle på det de mærker i kroppen
    • arbejde bevidst med nervesystemet gennem kontakten til de mennesker du underviser
    • forstå det psykologiske maskinrum bag din undervisning
    • arbejde med dig selv kropsligt, psykologisk og socialt i en sammenhæng der er uafhængig af yogaskole eller linje
    • stå stærkere i dit arbejdsliv som yogalærer

    I en tid hvor yoga forbindes mere og mere med sundhed og terapeutiske effekter mødes vi som yogalærere med nye udfordringer og forventninger. Som flere stress – og kriseramte mennesker finder frem til yoga, får vi i højere grad brug for afklare vores personlige og professionelle grænser og finde effektive metoder til at møde de nye behov som målgruppen møder op med. Hvor vores opkvalificering tidligere handlede om at lære at undervise flere nye yogaformer, bliver der nu mere brug for at kunne arbejde bevidst med nervesystemet, både elevens men også vores eget. Vi ved allerede en del om, hvordan vi gør dette gennem yogateknikker, men vi er ofte ikke trænet i at arbejde med nervesystemet gennem den verbale og nonverbale kontakt vi skaber til de mennesker vi underviser. Det sidste kræver en dybere forståelse af det psykologiske og sociale samspil der finder sted i yogalokalet.

    En vej ind i dette er at støtte op om elevens eksisterende ressourcer ved at give dem værktøjer til at lære sig selv og deres krop bedre at kende samt handle på det de kan mærke. På den måde styrker du eleven i at blive ekspert på sin egen krop og indre tilstand. Uddannelsen giver dig redskaber til at arbejde bevidst med din egen krop som værktøj i kontakten til dine elever, ved at raffinere dit indre sensoriske kompas, dit sprog for sansning og din verbale og nonverbale kommunikation.

    Kurset inkluderer elementer fra Birgittes tidligere uddannelse “Rollen som yogalærer – psykologien bag din undervisning” og udvider dette koncept med mere fokus på sensorisk sprog og sansetræning med øget fokus på deltagernes egen kropslige erfaring og yogapraksis. Birgitte er til stede fuld tid på samtlige moduler og underviser minimum 80 % af kontakttimerne selv. Hun har yderligere inviteret to gæstelærere der har fingeren på pulsen indenfor psykologi (regulering af nervesystemet) og yogaterapi. Læs mere om underviserne nedenfor. 

    Der undervises på dansk og der lukkes max 10 deltagere ind på holdet for at sikre kvaliteten og dybden af procesarbejdet. Du skal være indstillet på at arbejde med dig selv i et fortroligt rum hvor såvel underviser som gruppens medlemmer deler erfaringer fra livet som yogalærer.

    Indhold:

    Dit sensoriske kompas

    Din egen sansning af kroppen udgør fundamentet for udviklingen af et sensoriske sprog når du underviser. På uddannelsen udvikler du din sensitivitet overfor det du rent fysisk kan mærke i kroppen og får et sansebaseret fundament for din egen yogapraksis der kan bruges på tværs af yogaskoler og stilarter. Du får mere kontakt til dit eget sensoriske kompas – din evne til at mærke og handle på fysiske sansninger både når du praktiserer selv og når du underviser.

    Sensorisk sprog

    Som yogalærer har du allerede udviklet et sprog for det du mærker i kroppen og dette sprog videregiver du bevidst eller ubevidst når du underviser. Uddannelsen hjælper dig til at blive klarere og mere præcis i dit ”sansesprog” så det bliver lettere for eleven at følge med når du taler til deres indre erfaring af kroppen. Du får værktøjer til at bruge sensorisk sprog på tværs af yogaformer fra det helt blide og restorative over det mere muskulære og alignmentbaserede og hen i ikke-lineær og somatisk bevægelse som lige nu breder sig i yogaverden. Du lærer hvordan du kan give din undervisning i meditation og pranayama et sansebaseret twist gennem små justeringer af din verbale instruktion.

    Kontaktsprog

    Din undervisning er en invitation til kontakt mellem dig og eleven og din verbale og nonverbale kommunikation bestemmer i høj grad kvaliteten af denne kontakt. På uddannelsen lærer du at arbejde bevidst med typer af kontaktsprog når du underviser, sådan at du bedre kan etablere trygge rammer for elevens kropslige undersøgelse af indre tilstande. Med udgangspunkt i klinisk psykologisk praksis får du redskaber til at lægge flere ”lag” af kontaktsprog ind i din nonverbale og verbale instruktion når du underviser yogaklasser.

    Psykologi

    På uddannelsen gennemgår Birgitte og gæstelærer Frank Vestergaard Olsen basal viden om nervesystemet og dets betydning for vores oplevelse af kroppens indre tilstande samt vores sociale adfærd. Du får også en psykologfaglig vinkel på kunsten at rumme dine elever når du underviser, på hvordan du afgrænser dit arbejdsområde som yogalærer og på hvordan du passer på dig selv og dine elever når du er på arbejde. Vi går praktisk til hvordan du arbejder med kontakt, blandt andet når du skal håndtere elever der får det svært eller har følelsesladede reaktioner i undervisningen eller når du bliver udfordret i dit arbejde udenfor yogalokalet. Vi kigger på det psykologiske maskinrum bag lærer/elevrelationen og du får et blik for faldgruber og ressourcer i dit arbejde med begge sider af denne relation. Uddannelsen zoomer langsomt ud fra det enkelte individs psykologi til at give dig en psykologfaglig vinkel på dit arbejde med relationer, med grupper, med de organisationer som er en del af dit arbejdsliv og med dit eget lederskab.

    Yogahistorie

    Som en hjælp til at stå stærkere i din egen rolle som yogalærer, giver  Birgitte dig et indblik i den nyeste viden om yogaens historie. Du lærer hvordan den fysiske praksis har udviklet sig igennem tiden, hvad der har ledt op til, at det sensoriske lige nu får en renæssance indenfor moderne yoga samt hvordan det moderne yogalokale rummer ekkoer af tidligere måder at organisere sig på når man har ville videregive yoga som tradition. Et blik på den tradition du er en del af, giver dig ressourcer til at tage aktivt stilling at finde frem til dit eget bidrag til fremtidens yogatraditioner.

    Der indlægges en times frokostpause samt to kortere pauser i løbet af dagen. På de dage hvor vi har en gæstelærer på besøg kan programmet se anderledes ud. 

    Program og datoer:

    Uddannelsen består af 100 lektioner a´45 minutter. Timerne er fordelt mellem 4 moduler samt 3 mindre hjemmeopgaver der og bruges som materiale i undervisningen af næste modul. Du skal være indstillet på at prioritere et kort gruppearbejde mellem de to sidste moduler der kræver du mødes (evt. online) med et par af dine kolleger og udarbejder et oplæg.

    Optagelseskrav:

    Kurset henvender sig til dig, der allerede har minimum 100 timers yogalæreruddannelse i bagagen. Det er en fordel hvis du allerede er i gang med at undervise, men ikke et krav. Hvis du har påbegyndt din første yogalæreruddannelse, så kontakt Birgitte for at afklare om du kan starte.

    Hvis du har en historik omkring psykisk sygdom, stresssygemeldinger, sorg, traume eller krise, så ring eller skriv til Birgitte og få en snak om dette så i sammen kan vurdere om uddannelsen er det rigtige for dig, samt hvordan den evt. kunne møde dine behov.

    Der udstedes kursusbevis for deltagelse efter at uddannelsen er afsluttet. Kursusbevis gives kun til deltagere, der har deltaget i minimum 90% af undervisningen og har lavet de hjemmeopgaver, der ligger mellem modulerne. Der afholdes ikke eksamen.

    Undervisere:

    Birgitte Gorm Hansen – Cand.Psych. (Phd) og yogalærer.

    Birgitte kombinerer en psykologfaglig baggrund  med mere end 10 års erfaring i at undervise og uddanne yogalærere. Hun har arbejdet med sensorisk sprog igennem de sidste 18 år og har studeret med flere pionerer indenfor sansebaseret yoga, somatic movement og somatisk meditation.  I 2016 udbød hun Skandinaviens første yogalæreruddannelse der fokuserede på psykologien bag yogalærerjobbet.  Hun har været gæstelærer på yogalæreruddannelser, både i Danmark og internationalt hvor hun underviser i psykologi for yogalærere, moderne yogahistorie, sensorisk alignment, somatisk bevægelse, open flow yoga, meditation og skyggearbejde (Big Mind processer).

    På denne uddannelse trækker hun yderligere på sin akademiske baggrund som psykolog og forsker indenfor organisation og ledelse samt på metodiske greb fra Big Mind og proceskonsultation. Birgitte har praktiseret buddhistisk meditation siden 1992 og begyndte til yoga i midten af 1990erne. I de næste par år videreuddanner hun sig indenfor SOMA embodiment og Somatic Experiencing.

    Frank Vestergaard Olsen – cand.Psych (aut.)

    Vi er så heldige at have autoriseret psykolog og mindfulnessinstruktør Frank vestergaard Olsen med som gæstelærer på uddannelsen. Frank vil gennemgå ny viden om nervesystemet og dele ud af sin mangeårige erfaring med at arbejde ressourceorienteret med sårbare mennesker både i terapi og i undervisningssammenhænge. Frank er specialiseret i psykotraumatologi og bruger Somatic Experiencing og mindfullnesstræning i sit arbejde med mennesker ramt af sorg, krise og stress. Han har mange års erfaring med at supervisere og undervise profesionelle indenfor dette område og er medstifter af SE-foreningen og Traumeheling Aps.     Mia Mourier, yogaterapeut

    Mia er en af Danmarks første Yogaterapeuter. Hun er førende indenfor yogaterapi for mental sundhed og kvindehelse og arbejder til daglig med yogaterapi i individuelle sessioner og terapeutiske yogahold. Mia har mere end 1600 uddannelsestimer indenfor yoga, anatomi, traume-behandling og ikke mindst Yogaterapi, og er akkrediteret af the British Council of Yoga Therapy (BCYT). De seneste år har hun arbejdet på at færdiggøre sin certificering hos International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) i USA. På uddannelsen underviser Mia en inspirationsklasse og deler efterfølgende ud af sin erfaring med at undervise enetimer i hendes arbejde som yogaterapeut. Hun vil især fortælle om hende arbejde med støttende forløb til klienter ramt af stress, længere sygdomsforløb og krise. Mia fortæller lidt om, hvordan hun aflæser kroppe, sind og bevægelsesmønstre i forhold til ubalancer og uhensigtsmæssigheder og hvordan hun bruger dette på sine yogahold.

    A series of gentle morning classes awakening sensitivity through wave-like movements (ullola) following the natural rhythms of your breath. Birgitte will teach 4 progressive classes that invites you to feel more deeply and clearly what is happening in your body as you move, and how to respond to what you sense. Open to all but especially welcoming lovers of flow-based yoga (vinyasa, asthanga, hatha flow etc.) wanting to find more softness, fluidity, ease and stability in their practice. If you are a beginner you will receive a solid foundation for any kind of yoga practice, using simple and accessible postures. If you are a yoga teacher, this course will inspire you into invite students into listening more deeply to their own body when practicing classical yoga postures.

    Classes are 90 minutes long and primarily taught within the framework of the Dynamic Yoga Training Method. Birgitte may add elements from Open Flow Yoga to unwind and release tension at the beginning or end of the class. Instructions will be given in English or Danish as required.

    A sweet alternative to the annual Christmas party (or an opportunity to recover from one). In this workshop we explore softly flowing movements as a doorway to meditation. We move through a series of gentle, sensory flows inviting you to feel sensation and release unnecessary tension in the body. From this state of sensory awareness we come to rest in supine and seated, meditative stilness.

    The class ends with a cup of tea and a sweet snack. Come alone or bring a friend for a cozy December afternoon.

    Sensorisk alignment (workshop for yogalærere)

    I yoga opfordrer vi ofte eleverne til at ”lytte til kroppen”, blandt andet for at undgå skader. Men ofte har vi ikke de pædagogiske værktøjer til at lære eleven hvad det betyder i praksis. Lige nu kigger moderne yoga til sansningen af kroppen som et kompas, der kan supplere de ”one size” alignmentprincipper som vi tidligere har brugt som rettesnor. Tilbage står vi som undervisere med en ny udfordring: Nemlig at blive bedre til at lære eleven at justere sin praksis indefra og ikke kun korrigere sin praksis udefra.

    Hvilke sansninger skal vi opfordre eleven at overgive sig til og hvilke sansninger kræver handling? Hvordan lærer vi eleven selv at mærke forskellen på de to? Hvordan tilpasser vi alignmentprincipper til den enkelte, når vi står overfor en yogaklasse med 20-30 elever der alle har en unik kropsbygning og subjektiv oplevelse af kroppen? Hvad giver det eleven at arbejde systematisk med sit indre sansekompas og hvordan hænger det sammen med yogatraditionen og dens filosofier?

    På denne workshop bliver du introduceret for en metode til at træne dine elever i, at handle på det, de selv kan mærke. Du får en kropslig erfaring med sansebaseret bevægelse, samt inspiration til at introducere et sensorisk lag i dit undervisningssprog.

    Workshoppen er åben for yogalærere. De værktøjer du bliver introduceret til kan bruges på tværs af yogaformer og er ikke knyttet til en bestemt stilart. På dagen fokuserer vi dog primært på alignmentbaseret yoga i flow.

    Open Flow Yoga er en meditativ, dynamisk og sansebaseret yogaform der inviterer dig til at tænke ud af boksen, når du underviser i de fysiske stillinger. Ved at introducere ikke-lineære flows og sansebaseret instruktion i din undervisning hjælper du eleven med at bygge bro mellem bevægelse og meditation. Open Flow Yoga er en træning i at mærke efter og lade den fysiske praksis komme indefra den enkelte elevs unikke krop. En uddannelse for dig der allerede er yogalærer og gerne vil give dine klasser et funktionelt, undersøgende og meditativt element. Du får ny inspiration fra tre tendenser der lige nu bryder frem i det internationale yogamiljø.

    • Ny viden – nye bevægelser: Fascia, tensegritet og den nye yogakrop. Ny anatomisk viden om fascia og funktionel bevægelse har i de sidste 5 år udfordret det geometrisk definerede alignment-paradigme som har præget yogaens fysiske praksis fra 1930érne og frem. Dette ændrer lige nu på vores billede af yogakroppen og hvordan den bevæger sig. På uddannelsen tager vi fat i ny viden om bindevæv og bevægelse og hvilken betydning den får i moderne fysisk yogapraksis. Du lærer tre nye typer af bevægelse som kan supplere din eksisterende undervisning og give den et mere legende, intuitivt og fascia-orienteret element. Vi arbejder med at finpudse din verbale instruktion så forbliver klar og tydelig selv når du underviser mere komplekse og ikke-lineære bevægelser.
    • Sansebaseret yoga: At undervise asana indefra. Open Flow Yoga er den første yogalæreruddannelse på Dansk som tilbyder en systematisk metode til sansebaseret instruktion. En stor del af den målgruppe som finder yoga i dag, kommer ikke bare til yoga for at bevæge sig. Det tidligere fokus på styrke, smidighed og avancerede yogastillinger mødes nu også med et ønske om ”noget mere”. Ro, nærvær, kropsbevidsthed, selvomsorg, stressreduktion, krisefærdigheder eller at komme ”ud af hovedet og ned i kroppen” står nu mindst ligeså højt på ønskelisten hos den nye yogaelev som ønsket om at være i bedre fysisk form eller at mestre den perfekte armbalance. Det segment yogalærere i dag arbejder med efterlyser således mere kropsligt nærvær i deres bevægelser. På uddannelsen undersøger vi hvordan du kan tale mere præcist til elevens sansning af kroppen når du underviser. Vi gennemgår historien og anatomien bag sansebaseret yoga og arbejder praktisk med, hvordan du underviser asana ”indefra”. Dette hjælper dig til at fordybe en fri eller legende bevægelse til at give eleven en mere meditativ oplevelse af flow. Du lærer tre lag af verbal instruktion der skærper det sansebaserede og intuitive element på dine klasser og hjælper dine elever til ikke bare at observere hvad der sker i kroppen, men også at handle selvstændigt på det, de mærker.
    • Post-lineage yoga og nye former for læring: Yogaverden er begyndt at organisere sig anderledes. Det livslange forhold til en guru eller en hierarkisk opbygget yogaskole (lineage) som indtil sidste generation udgjorde det primære læringsrum for yoga bliver i disse år suppleret ”post lineage yoga” (Wildcroft 2018). Vi ser i dag en stigende tendens til at læring foregår på tværs at fællesskaber hvor yogalærere og elever organiserer sig mere flydende og hierarkierne bliver fladere. Netværket og cirklens model blander sig i dag med den klassiske pyramideopbygning hvor guruen sidder på toppen af hierarkiet. Dette stiller spørgsmålstegn ved den pædagogik vi som yogalærere underviser ud fra, som ofte afspejler den model vi arvede fra tidligere generationer. På uddannelsen får du et hurtigt overblik over den moderne yogahistorie, hvor vi kommer fra og hvor vi er på vej hen. Vi kigger på faldgruberne i både de gamle og de nye måder at lære på og arbejder praktisk med, hvordan du bruger dem bevidst i din undervisning. Du får teori og træning i en pædagogisk tilgang som sætter fokus på elevens læring (frem for præstation) og styrker elevens egne ressourcer og selvstændighed. Vi kigger også lidt på, hvordan vi i vores undervisning kan arbejde bevidst med den sociale dynamik i rummet og med kontakten til eleverne.

    Undervisningen dækker følgende temaer:

    • Open Flow: Du lærer at praktisere, instruere og sekvensere tre nye bevægelsestyper som kan bruges som et krydderi i din eksisterende undervisning. De nye bevægelser du lærer på uddannelsen, inviterer et meditativt, sanseligt og undersøgende element i din undervisning, og kan bruges som supplement uanset om du underviser udenfor eller indenfor alignmentbaseret yoga.
    • Sansebaseret instruktion: Du lærer at sekvensere din verbale instruktion så dine elever kan følge med dig trin for trin. Dette gør din instruktion lettere at følge og stiller skarpt elevens sansning af kroppen og evne til at handle på det, de selv mærker.
    • Motorisk læring: Du bliver introduceret for pædagogiske grundprincipper der fremmer læring på din klasser så dine elever får maksimalt udbytte af undervisningen.
    • Fascia: Du får basal viden om den betydning ny viden om bindevævet er ved at få i yogaens fysiske praksis. Hvad – om noget- ved vi egentlig om bindevævet lige nu? Hvad ændrer sig ved den fysiske yogapraksis når vi forstår kroppen som andet og mere end skelet og muskler?
    • Tensegritet: Du får en basal viden om tensegritet (tensional integrity) og den betydning dette begreb er ved at få i yogaens fysiske praksis. Hvad ændrer sig ved vores måde at undervise i yoga på når vi ser kroppen mere som en organisk helhed end som en mekanisk struktur?
    • Nye pædagogikker: Som et bud på en nytænkning af de sociale dynamikker som moderne yoga har arvet fra sidste århundrede, undersøger vi nye undervisningsformer hvor yogalærerens ekspertrolle er nedtonet til fordel for elevernes selvstændige og sociale læring.

    Uddannelsen inkluderer:

    • 50 kontakttimer med Birgitte, hvor der veksles mellem praksis og teori gennem guidede yogaklasser, oplæg, dialog og gruppearbejde. I tillæg til de 50 timer er der hjemmeopgaver mellem de to moduler, der hjælper til at sikre høj effekt i din læringsproces.
    • Lydoptagelser af de længere yogaklasser som Birgitte underviser live på uddannelsen.

    Optagelseskrav og kursusbevis:
    Kurset henvender sig til dig, der allerede har minimum 100 timers yogalæreruddannelse i bagagen. Det er en fordel hvis du allerede er i gang med at undervise, men ikke et krav.     Underviser Birgitte Gorm Hansen

    Birgitte er kendt for sin høje kvalitet som underviser og sin dybe dedikation til undersøgende, sansende og meditativ yoga. Hun har undervist yogalærere hen over de sidste 10 år og står for en udogmatisk, eksperimentel praksis, hvor elevens egen indre oplevelse af kroppen altid er i centrum. Hendes klasser er legende, sensitive og nydelsesfulde invitationer til at elske den krop, du har i dag.

    Birgitte har undervist ugentlige yogaklasser siden 2001 og gennemført 5 uddannelser indenfor yoga og meditation, siden hun begyndte at praktisere for snart 25 år siden. Hendes fundament som yogalærer kommer fra Dynamic Yoga suppleret med nyere bevægelsesformer som Fascial Flow og Yoga Somatics. Buddhistisk meditation har været den bærende pille i hendes praksis fra teenageårene og lige nu studerer Birgitte på 6. år hos sin zen lærer, Genpo Roshi.

    Ud over yogaen er Birgitte uddannet psykolog (cand. psych.) fra Københavns Universitet, Ph.d. fra CBS og proceskonsulent fra Attractor. Birgitte har forelæst og forsket på flere danske universiteter gennem årene og var et af de første ansigter på Danmarks største online yogaudbyder Yogavivo. Hun har gæstet flere danske yogalæreruddannelser som assistent, gæsteunderviser og censor igennem de sidste 10 år. I dag tilbyder hun efteruddannelser, mentorforløb og psykologisk procesarbejde for undervisere indenfor yoga og meditationsverdenen. Hendes specialer er sansebaseret alignment, nytænkning af yogaens fysiske praksis samt de psykologiske og sociale dynamikker, der opstår omkring rollen som yogalærer. Frem til 2015 fungerede Birgitte som seniorlærer ved Windfire School of Yoga og arbejdede en stor del af tiden i udlandet. I dag bor hun i København med sin familie og arbejder uafhængigt af yogaskole og stilart.

    Ullola: Flowbaseret instruktion (2 pladser tilbage)

    Ordet ullola betyder bølge og betegner et mini-flow der kører i ring mellem to eller flere yogastillinger. Hvor en vinyasa er en perlerække af åndedræt og bevægelse der forbinder to statiske stillinger, er en ullola en perlekrans eller et kontinuerligt “loop” uden start eller slutpunkt. Eleven følger sin egen vejrtrækning og klassen derfor typisk arbejde asynkront med et individuelt fokus, snarere end synkront med et fælles fokus når du bruger ullola som undervisningsværktøj.

    Teknikken bliver i dag undervist på flere yogalæreruddannelser i Danmark under navne som “mini-flow”, “uttulole”, “cirkulære flows” mm. Ullola som undervisningsmetode blev opfundet af Birgittes tidligere lærer Godfrey Devereux allerede i slutningen af 1990érne. I Danmark har teknikken bredt sig og bruges mest til at invitere et meditativt flow, men ullola kan også bruges som pædagogisk værktøj til at støtte elevens læring og fordybelse i åndedræt, sansning eller i teknik.

    Ullola er sjove at lege med, men også rigtig udfordrende at undervise. På denne workshop deler Birgitte ud af 15+ års erfaring med at undervise ullola-bserede yogaklasser. Du får:

    Dive deeper into the subtle heart of yoga over a weekend that honors the inherent wisdom of your body. In yoga we are often encouraged to respect our bodies and feel what’s ok for us, but often we are not taught how exactly to do this. What sensations should we surrender to and what sensations should we act on? How to feel the body more clearly and deeply? What are the benefits of placing sensitivity at the heart of your practice?

    The classes can be booked as course or individually and are especially suited to those with an interest in the subtle, fluid and meditative aspects of yoga posture practice. When booked together, the three classes form an introduction to the basic principles of Open Flow Yoga.

    The retreat takes place in Brigitte’s private yoga studio in Sluseholmen with a beautiful view to the sky and the water. Max 10 people in each class. If you want to combine the classes with a walk in nature, an ocean dive or lunch at a café with a friend, there are plenty of good opportunities in the area.     A quiet restorative practice where we stay close to the floor. We will use slow and gentle movements to release and soften the tissues and supported yoga postures to relax and

    release unnecessary tension. We will work with the principles of yielding to earth and engaging subtle pre-movements.

    Saturday the 7th 9.30-12.30: Open Flow Sensitize

    A soft and continuous movement meditation, tuning you into your ability to feel physical sensation and inviting it to guide your movements. We will work with the principles of sensitization, moving from what we can feel rather than from what we can train ourselves to do. The class explores fluctuating, unwinding movements that hydrate and soften tissues while inviting you to reconnect with your inner teacher.

    Sunday the 8th 9.30-12.30:  Open Flow Energize

    A dynamic and meditative practice where we allow the playful aspect of open Flow Yoga to emerge from our connection with gravity. We will integrate the practices of yielding and sensitizing in open flows with more energizing movements such as osscilations and waves. The class may incorporate more classical yoga posture flows, giving it a sensitive and creative twist.

    Open Flow Yoga:

    Open flow yoga is a practice of somatic self-enquiry. It invites you to access the inherent wisdom of your body by teaching you to move from deeply felt sensation. Instructions are given as gentle invitation to listen, feel and respond to the body you have today. Rather than fitting body into shapes dictated by the teacher, you will be guided into allowing your own inherent movement to freely fulfill itself.

     

    How is it practiced?
    The classes are taught as a mixture of structured and spontaneous movement enquiries as well as rest in meditative stillness. It’s a dynamic, but gentle and meditative practice expanding your practice a little beyond the movements of classic yoga posture practice. Thus, adding to classical yoga posture practice, a class can include wave-like movements (undulation), gentle rocking movements (osscilation) open flows (fluctuation) and subtle pre-movements and meditative stillness. Throughout the practice, you will be invited to feel the arising and dissolving of internal sensation and allow our mind to rest into this flow of sensation.

    What is it for?
    Open flow yoga is a practice of embodied self enquiry, getting to know yourself through sensitive movement. You may experience over time that your body moves with more delight, grace and ease, some would call this functional strength and mobility. If you have been under stress you may also feel that the practice builds more resilience as your nervous system finds its way back into a more balanced stress response. You may even gain insights into your own nature that makes you feel like you have made some kind of progress in yoga. However, these are not goals set by the teacher but more like side effects of your own process. To the teacher you arrive to class perfect, complete and whole as you are. The teachers job is not to provide answers but to ask good questions that spark your own curiosity and exploration.

    The only real outcome of the practice is thus a deepening of your enquiry into what is happening here and now, in and as your body. Yoga in this approach is an engagement with the world rather than a retreat from it. By honoring the body we have today and by practicing together to support each other we let go, at least a little, of the pressure to perform or improve. Is it possible to really appreciate this life and this body in all its variation, just as it is?

    Where does it come from?
    Like any other approach to yoga posture practice Open Flow Yoga draws inspiration from several sources. Some of them are: Yoga Somatics, developmental movement, Fascial Flow, Dynamic Yoga and the fluid teachings of Angela Farmer.

    Birgitte introducerer her en af de nyere tendenser i moderne yoga: Ikke-lineære bevægelser og fokus på fascia/bindevæv.     Tirsdag den 27. November: Sansning – intimitet med kroppen (aften)

    En hel fundamental del af yoga er at lytte til kroppen. På samme måde som du ville lytte til en god ven der fortæller dig om sin dag, kan yoga foregå som en respektfuld og åben samtale. Når vi arbejder med sensitivitet og det at mærke efter hos sig selv falder præstationstrangen, projekterne og dommene væk og vi står ansigt til ansigt med den intimitet vi så ofte længes efter og søger uden for os selv.

    Birgitte underviser en blid, dynamisk yogaklasse der bevæger hele kroppen og skærper din sansning, især omkring leddene. Ved at blive mere præcis omkring, hvad du kan mærke i kroppen (interoception) når du bevæger dig, lærer du at guide din praksis indefra så du ved hvor langt du skal gå i en yogastilling, hvor længe du skal blive der og hvad du kan gøre for at din yogapraksis bliver mere meditativ og behagelig.

    Onsdag den 28. November: Flow – det frie åndedræt (aften)

    På moderne yogaklasser arbejdes der tit med at synkronisere åndedræt og bevægelse (vinyasa). Denne tilgang tilfører din yoga et legende og flydende element, men gemmer også på et meditativt aspekt der sjældent finder sin fulde dybde på det ugentlige drop-ind hold. På denne workshop arbejder vi med flow-baseret yoga som meditationsteknik. Birgitte underviser i det frie åndedræt (svaramukta) som et kraftfuldt redskab til at gå dybere i din praksis og kobler dette med en række enkle, cirkulære flows (ullolla). Du lærer at bruge det frie åndedræt som et redskab til at gå dybere i din praksis. Birgitte deler her sin viden og mange års erfaring fra Dynamic Yoga hvor metoden til at undervise det frie åndedræt er udviklet. 

    Onsdag den 28. November : Workshop for yogalærere: Sansebaseret instruktion (eftermiddag)

    Som yogalærere bruger vi ofte generelle alignmentprincipper for at sikre, at vi passer godt på vores elever i undervisningen. Men eftersom dine elevers kroppe er specifikt forskellige både fysisk og historisk er der ikke noget one-size princip der passer til alle. En sikker og sensitiv instruktion taler derfor altid til elevens egen oplevelse af kroppen, sådan at vi som yogalærere underviser vores elever i selv at handle på det de kan mærke snarere end bare at gøre hvad der bliver sagt. De fleste yogalærere er i dag opmærksomme på, at det er for uspecifikt blot at bede eleven om selv at ”mærke efter” eller ”respektere sin grænse”. Alligevel er der I dag yderst få yogalæreruddannelser der tilbyder en systematisk metode til at guide eleven i at finde ud af a) hvad de konkret skal mærke efter og b) hvor grænsen går netop i dag. Denne workshop giver dig inspiration til, hvordan du konkret kan hjælpe dine elever med at fintune sensitiviteten overfor sansefornemmelser og undersøge deres egen krops kapacitet.

    Learn the basics of seated meditation. You can use the course as a support for beginning, rebooting or deepening your seated practice at home, or you can simply enjoy the classes as a weekly evening relaxation treat. Birgitte will invite you to embrace meditation as a practice of embodied self-inquiry. You will learn a performance-free approach to meditation that invites you to embody the state you are in and be at peace there. You will get support from a dedicated teacher to:

    -Find a comfortable meditation posture that works for you.

    -Learn basic techniques that invite your mind to relax into meditation rather than using effort to get there.

    -Clarify questions that come up in your practice as it deepens.

    -Learn about meditation as a natural baseline for the mind rather than a cultivated skill.

    The classes will alternate between guided meditation practices and gentle mindful movement that release unnecessary tension before the next round of sitting. Each class makes room for clarification and dialogue underway, so you can adjust and deepen your practice week after week.

    Sensitivity (ahimsa)

    In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, ahimsa is the first yama. Yama is the first of 8 limbs that constitute yoga and is seen as the foundation, gateway or threshold to the practice and the state of yoga. Yama has five to ten aspects depending on which text we look at, here I’m going to go with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which is still viewed as the most important compilation of texts on yoga (That´s about to change it btw., more on this later).

    We normally translate yama as “restraints”, “self-control”, “observances” or “rules” (see source translation list below). Yama can be seen as a compass that steer our embodied self-enquiry in the direction of Yoga as a ground state. It can also be seen as a set of lenses or glasses through which we see ourselves more clearly and learn from experience (Devereux, 2012). Ahimsa or non-violence is the first quality of yama, and a pretty important one. In some translations and commentaries of Patanjali, the remaining four yamas are all extensions of this first and one:

    “The other rules and observances are rooted in it. They are practised in order to practice it, with the aim of perfecting it. They are being expounded only for the sake of bringing about it´s pure form” (Patanjalayogasastra, translated by Mallison and Singelton 2017, p.80).

    The word
    In translations of the yoga Sutras, we see the word Ahimsa divided up in two parts: “a” being a negation and “himsa” meaning harm, injury or violence. In that translation “a”+”himsa” would mean “non-violence”, “non-harming” or “harmlessness”. The most common translation used today is non-violence. There is debate, however, whether the “a” really should be translated as a negation, in some interpretations that take into account the older root of “a” it may also have meant “getting to know” or “inquiring into” (Soham Johansen personal communication). So ahimsa could both mean, “do no harm” but it could perhaps also mean “get to know harm”. How and from where do harmful actions arise in us? “How does it feel when that happens?” “How does harm work in ourselves and in relationship to others?” “What is harm?” I´m not a Sanskrit scholar, so my reading of Patanjali is coming from a practitioner’s perspective rather than a scholarly one. From the perspective of my experience as a practitioner, it makes sense that the word ahimsa could imply both a practice of getting to know the nature of harm and a practice of doing no harm. In my experience, the latter depends very much on the former. If we don´t want to know about harm, acknowledge harm, investigate harm, we can´t recognize or feel it when it´s happening, hence we can’t learn and change.

    The practice

    How does one practice ahimsa, for example, in the context of a modern yoga posture class? The root of all inquiry, all forms of investigation into the nature of your experience goes through ypur body. More specifically, it goes through sense impressions or sensations generated in and as your body. You know there is a body and a world because you feel, see, hear, touch, smell, and taste things. So if there is such a thing as a practice of ahimsa, it would begin with honoring our natural ability to experience things as bodies. On your yoga mat, it would therefore begin with your ability to feel physical sensation. Godfrey Devereux translates ahimsa with the word sensitivity (Devereux 2012). Becoming sensitive to what is happening, becoming gradually more attuned to feeling and discriminating between different kinds of sensations. Sensitivity lies at the heart of our ability to respond to what we experience, responding according to the situation at hand requires that you can feel what’s going on. Yoga posture practice is a great way to inquire into, and allow oneself to become affected by, physical sensation.

    Ahimsa, in this perspective is not so much a rule for practice as a mode of practice. A mode of somatic self-inquiry. Ahimsa is set of questions you can ask yourself: What does this feel like? Is it soft or hard, spacious or compressed, painful or delightful, local or nonlocal? When moving as we do in yoga posture practice we can ask ourselves: What can I do with my hands that support my wrists and shoulders when they carry weight? What can I do with my feet that soften my knees and lower back when standing? How and how much should i lift my head in cobra in order for the back of the neck to still feel long and soft? When my jaw and lips soften, what else can soften with it?

    The expression

    How does ahimsa expres itself i our lives? In the yoga sutras of Patanjali, it is said that when one become deeply grounded in the practice of ahimsa one’s presence “creates an atmosphere in which all hostility ceases” (Stiles, 2002 p.25).

    This – to me- does not mean that you will walk around smiling in an atmosphere of undisturbed peace no matter what happens around you. Neither does it mean that you will never ever hurt anyone’s feelings again or that because you are doing yoga your exhalations magically cease to contribute to climate change or that the people around you will stop fighting when your super natural aura of pace, love and rainbows is shining in their vicinity.  Ahimsa simply means being sensitive enough to recognize when something harmful is actually happening. Being willing to feel the impact is has on you. When grounded in ahimsa we become ready to recognize and respond to what is happening and it´s more likely we will cease from harm when we feel the pain it creates in others and ourselves.

    Ahimsa, according to my former teacher Godfrey Devereux, is not a moral commandment used for social control as if humans were naturally prone to violence and need to be restrained. Rather than a restriction, ahimsa is an invitation to inquire into our own nature. To feel more deeply and respond more directly to what is happening. To honor your body´s natural wisdom which will always move towards nourishment and non-harming (ahimsa) and away from harm (himsa). All life does this, from the amoeba to the human being. Ahimsa is an inquiry beginning with our own body but extending to all life.

    When we become deeply rooted in the practice of ahimsa nothing special or super natural has happened. Rather, we have become aware that something is happening naturally all the time. Something that was already in our nature has been allowed to express itself freely.

    “Sensitivity generates love,” Godfrey writes in his interpretation of the Yoga Sutras (p.90). Love and compassion are natural qualities that flow from sensitivity. Ahimsa is perhaps not a discipline or a self-controlled practice that can be claimed by some moral yoga-elite. Ahimsa is perhaps nothing other than the basic functioning of life. A natural sensitivity that generates love towards all of life.

    In that sense it´s a bit funny, to say we will “practice ahimsa”. In a sense, the invitation to practice ahimsa is here with you right now. Sensation is always available to you. Your sensitive body is constantly feeling things. The practice is becoming willing and able to recognize what it is we are feeling and understand the implications of that.

    En typisk dag

    Fra siddende meditation ruller vi direkte over på yogamåtten til en langsomt flydende dynamisk yogapraksis. Birgitte guider 6 sensitive morgenklasser som vækker din evne til at handle på det du mærker i kroppen mens du nænsomt øger din styrke og mobilitet trin for trin.
    Efter morgenklassen serverer vores værter en stor vegetarisk brunch buffet og du kan hoppe en tur I poolen (ingen klor). Du også gå ned til den lokale strand 15 minutter fra hvor vi bor. Hvis vejret tillader det, flytter vi morgenmeditationen ned på stranden en gang eller to i løbet af ugen.
    Eftermiddagene byder på blide, meditative yogaklasser der afspænder kroppen og afbalancerer nervesystemet. Vi holder fri mandag eftermiddag hvor du får tid til at gå på opdagelse i lokalområdet, vandre eller slappe af ved poolen.

    Om aftenen kan du nyde den lokale landsby Molyvos og spise på en af de hyggelige tavernaer. Landsbyen ligger kun 20 minutter væk til fods og har masser af små smalle gader, gamle stenhuse og et vælg af hyggelige cafeer.

    Vi har stille-tid hver dag fra kl ca. 22.00 og indtil vi mødes til yoga igen næste morgen kl 7.30. Stilhed er en mulighed for at mærke hvad der sker i dig som ugen skrider frem og du går dybee i din praksis. Du er naturligvis fri til at stille praktiske spørgsmål eller meddelelser om aftenen hvis du skulle få brug for det. Stilletid er et tilbud og absolut ikke et krav.

    Hvem kan deltage

    Retreaten er åben for alle uanset hvilken gren på yoga-stamtræet du normalt hænger ud på. Forløbet er omhyggeligt struktureret så du gradvist kan fordybe din kropsbevidsthed og blive mere selvstændig når du bag efter ruller yogamåtten ud derhjemme. Retreaten kræver ingen overmenneskelig styrke eller smidighed, men almindelig praktisk mobilitet er nødvendig for at kunne deltage (såsom at kunne sætte dig ned på et gulv og komme op at stå igen uden hjælpemidler eller at kunne stå på alle fire i kortere tid).

    Dette legendariske yoga retreat center ligger på den græske ø Lesbos. Fra husene er der kun 10 minutters gang til havet og den lille landsby Molyvos. Milelja byder på en rolig og intim atmosfære, som er perfekt til vores yoga retreats. Fra Milelja kan I nyde den storslåede udsigt til Molyvos eller bare beundre grundens gamle træer, de smukke blomster, de rustikke bygninger og det skønne landskab, som omgiver det hele.

    Yoga moves on…

    Yoga runs through human history like a river meandering through changing landscapes. Shaping and shaped by the curves of human bodies and  societies, yoga is always in continuous variation.

    The yoga I teach today is very different from the practice i was given by my teachers who in turn radically tweaked and transformed what they received from the previous generation. It can come as no surprise then, that the yoga available to us today probably looks nothing like that of the ancient sages we read about in classical texts.

    How could it?

    Yoga does not transmit itself from body to body by way of sameness and stability. It survives and thrives by difference and repetition. Subtle variation and spontaneous emergence is how the yoga river runs through it all. Still, something seems to remain: An embodied mode of self-enquiry that strangely resonates with experiences described by men and women sitting in caves centuries before our time.

    Yoga is never the same, yet yoga is always yoga. (Welcome to paradox!)

    The past few years, the river of modern postural yoga seems to be taking a new turn. European pioneers like Angela Farmer, Godfrey Devereux and Vanda Scaravelli spark this movement with explorations of a softer, more internalized and radically free-flowing approach to asana.

    Standing on their shoulders, we are now witnessing the beginning of what could be the biggest transformation in modern postural yoga since the 1930ies. All over the world teachers are beginning to challenge the old paradigm of straight lines, intense stretching and static posturing.

    At the fringe of this new wave in yoga posture practice are approaches working with sensation-based movement, balanced muscular support, tensional integrity and open-ended or chaos-like flows.

    Several societal changes and influences from outside the yoga community have also playe their role in the changes we are seeing now. Where the yogis of the 1900´s got new inspiration from the hierarchical order of monastic spirituality, western gymnastics and military organizations, yoga teachers today are inspired to form new social organizations based on a taste for fee enquiry, collective exploration and a global need for responsible leadership.

    Another major influence in the new asana-paradigm is recent discoveries in human anatomy. Especially the science on fascia – part of the connective tissue – has changed our perception on how human bodies move and thrive. Another strong influence is childhood developmental movements like yielding, crawling, rolling and spiraling, which seem to gain more traction in modern yoga classes due to their healing and integrating potential for human bodies. Lastly, the popularization of mindfulness has fronted the internalized and meditative aspect of yoga posture practice even more.

    As any new wave, these new approaches to modern postural yoga will have to stand the test of time. I for one am excited to see where this is going. It is a pleasure to share so much dedication with my colleagues at home and abroad. It seems so many of us are exploring new frontiers. The driver seems to be a collective desire to create a safe and nourishing yoga posture practice that fit the needs of modern life.

    To celebrate the creative transmission of yoga, I’ve created two new courses starting this autumn. Both address themes arising are at frontier of modern yoga right now.

    The first is a course called the spiral vinyasa, using developmental movement, tensegrity principles and bringing circular movements and spiral flows. Here we explore new orientations beyond the normal yoga division of the body into front/back and sagittal plane. This course is taught in English if required.

    The second course is “open flow yoga” and will be taught in Danish. Here we explore meditative and continuous movement, experimenting with letting movement patterns arise spontaneously from wisdom of the body. The course draws inspiration from from continuum movement and fascial flow. Wheras the spiral vinyasa feels more energizing and muscular, open flow yoga is a more meditative and calming practice.

    Pull the plug, take the plunge and dive into the depths of yoga. This urban retreat will take place in the beautiful Metropolis Yoga Shala at Sluseholmen, an undisturbed city space with plenty of open sky, ocean view and nature walks just around the corner. Each day we will dive deeper into yoga posture flows, myofascial release and seated meditation, allowing you to tune into the subtle delight of being deeply present in the body. Parts of the retreat will take place in practical silence, giving you the opportunity to go deep within. The urban retreat is open to all from beginners to the most advanced.     Fascia are the thin elastic tissues that envelop every part of your body into an interconnected whole.  For the last two decades, yogis have approached fascial release mainly through long passive stretching or applying static pressure with balls and foam rollers.  Recently, however, we are seeing a global wave of new approaches working with fascia through slow, subtle movements, muscular action and unstructured flows. Fascia work is becoming an undeniable “new black” in the international yoga community.

    Birgitte will guide you through a softly flowing practice where movement arise out of deeply felt sensation. The practice awakens a more supple form of strength and flexibility similar to the kind you see in little babies. We will explore moving in ways that challenge your habituated patterns of neatly aligned yoga postures and allow you to tap into the creative repertoire of your very own body. The class alternates between structured movement-enquiries done together and slow open flows that invite you to explore your own internal experience of the body.

    Birgitte is there to facilitate the wisdom of your feeling body so you can hear its gentle messages more clearly. Therefore, the workshop will be experience based, meaning 100% practice and 0% theory! Birgitte is happy to discuss theoretical implications and yoga anatomy after the workshop but will not get you in your head while you are working on the yoga mat.

    Når lyset vender tilbage, får vi naturligt trang til at blive mere aktive. Her vil du blive undervist i teknikker til blidt at vække muskulaturen i hele kroppen og udforske nye bevægelser i din yogapraksis. Vi kravler udenfor yogamåttens fire hjørner og bruger væggene og gulvet til at udfordre de lige linjer, der har karakteriseret yogaens fysiske praksis siden 1930érne. Klasserne giver dig en mere organisk tilgang til din yogapraksis, som din legende barnekrop sikkert husker.     Om Fascial Flow Yoga:
    Fascierne er en del af dit bindevæv, et fint netværk af elastisk væv, der forbinder kroppen fra inderst til yderst. Fascial Flow Yoga er en måde at bevæge dig på, som aktivt stimulerer fascierne, så de bibeholder deres elasticitet og vitalitet. Det er en yogaform, der arbejder blidt med funktionel bevægelse, afbalancering af nervesystemet, træner sensitiviteten og styrker oplevelsen af egne ressourcer.
    Klasserne veksler mellem strukturerede sekvenser, der arbejder med kompensationer i kroppen og meditative flows, hvor kroppen får lov at følge sin egen spontane bevægelse.     Fascia are the thin elastic tissues that envelop every part of your body into an interconnected whole.  For the last two decades, yogis have approached fascial release mainly through long passive stretching or applying static pressure with balls and foam rollers.  Recently, however, we are seeing a global wave of new approaches working with fascia through slow, subtle movements, muscular action and unstructured flows. Fascia work is becoming an undeniable “new black” in the international yoga community.

    Birgitte will guide you through a softly flowing practice where movement arise out of deeply felt sensation. The practice awakens a more supple form of strength and flexibility similar to the kind you see in little babies. We will explore moving in ways that challenge your habituated patterns of neatly aligned yoga postures and allow you to tap into the creative repertoire of your very own body. The class alternates between structured movement-enquiries done together and slow open flows that invite you to explore your own internal experience of the body.

    Birgitte is there to facilitate the wisdom of your feeling body so you can hear its gentle messages more clearly. Therefore, the workshop will be experience based, meaning 100% practice and 0% theory! Birgitte is happy to discuss theoretical implications and yoga anatomy after the workshop but will not get you in your head while you are working on the yoga mat.

    På denne workshop lærer du at mærke kroppen og lade yogastillingerne folde sig ud derfra. Flowet foregår i langsomme bølger, der forløser og regulerer bindevævet (fascia) og inviterer til balance i nervesystemet. Vi starter i kendt yoga-farvand med at kombinere enkle yogastillinger, hvor du flyder på åndedrættet mellem to eller flere yogastillinger (ullola). Den skærpede sensitivitet tager vi med os på de næste klasser hvor vi slipper tøjlerne og udforske kroppens evne til at følge sin egen organiske bevægelse i åbne flows. En yogapraksis ”uden snor” kan støtte dig i din selvpraksis, sådan at den bliver mere kreativ, sensitiv og baseret på din krops egne behov snarere end på at komme igennem en obligatorisk rutine eller passe ind i et kulturelt ideal. Weekenden inviterer dig ind i en meditativ og sanselig yoga praksis, der inviterer dig til at undersøge det din krop kalder på lige nu.

    Yogafilosofi er fuld af dybe erkendelser fra gamle mestre. Men hvis vi skal tro dem ret bærer du allerede disse erkendelser i dig selv. Yogafilosofi er derfor ikke blot et studie af andres tanker og ideer men også en praksis og en undersøgelse af din egen dybeste natur. På denne introduktionsaften bruger vi Big Mind processen til at lære dig selv bedre at lege med yogafilosofi i praksis. Birgitte faciliterer gruppen i dialog med forskellige aspekter af os selv som ofte rummer dyb visdom og kærlighed men i deres fornægtede eller undertrykte tilstand også kan spænde ben for os i vores hverdagsliv samt i spirituelle praksisser som yoga og meditation. Ved at give dine skyggesider og skjulte ressourcer taletid og kærlig opmærksomhed åbner du for en erkendelse af den visdom du allerede bærer i dig. Spontane meditationspauser kan forekomme undervejs.

    Om Big Mind: Processen er oprindelig skabt af den amerikanske zenmester Genpo Roshi som et middel til at gøre zen mere tilgængelig for vesten. Den bruges i dag i mange forskellige sammenhænge, fra organisationsudvikling og coaching til terapi og spirituel praksis. Det foregår som en gruppebaseret dialog mellem facilitatoren og deltagerne. En aften med Big Mind tilbyder dig nye perspektiver på dig selv og dit liv og sandsynligvis også en aha-oplevelse eller to. Birgitte er en ud af kun tre i Danmark der har gennemført de grundlæggende moduler i Big Mind facilitering og er registreret på Genpo Roshis hjemmeside. Hun har studeret intensivt med Genpp Roshi som lærer og mentor i de sidste tre år og går videre med overbygningsuddannelsen i 2016.

    Join us for a week in the beautiful mountains of Portugal. Birgitte will teach a yoga retreat supporting a somatic self-inquiry on your mat with slow, deep posture flows, sensitive and natural breath release and sweet bedtime meditations.
    The yoga posture practice is based on continuous movements that gradually deepen your sensitivity to sensation and invite you to listen to the teacher within. Morning classes begin with a seated pranayama practice and transitions into a soft vinyasa flow teaching balanced muscular activity to support your joints while strengthening and mobilizing the whole of your body. Afternoons offer a more quiet and meditative flow releasing connective tissue and nervous system.
    Two evenings we will play with the Big Mind process inviting you to collectively reflect and work with what comes up in your practice during the retreat. Big Mind was developed by Zen Master Genpo Roshi and takes place as a dialogue between the facilitator and the group.     Making friends with Monkey Mind

    “Monkey mind” is the part of you that fills your head with chatter and throws peanuts in your face when you are trying to “do yoga” or sit in meditation. Monkey mind is playing up when we find ourself lying awake in bed, when we put the toothpaste in the refrigerator or when we spend an entire yoga class thinking about…whatever! This workshop will help you make friends with your monkey mind, getting the benefit of its power, strength and speed rather than trying to tie it down. We begin with a facilitated dialogue with the part of our mind that is wild and unruly and sometimes disturbs us in our daily life. From there we slide on to the yoga mat for a softly flowing posture practice, relaxation and seated meditation.

    The workshop is open to anyone, especially if you sometimes feel disturbed by your thinking mind. It will be taught in english or danish as required.

    Fascial Flow Yoga: Bindevævet i bevægelse

    Bindevævet er de små gennemsigtige ”poser” der forbinder kropens dele til en sammenhængende helhed. I yoga går vi ofte til bindevævet gennem lange statiske ”stræk” i passive stillinger (jf. yin yoga og restorativ yoga). En anden vej er at arbejde dybt med bindevævet gennem langsomme, subtile bevægelser (pre-movement). Birgitte guider dig igennem en meditativ praksis som opbygger en blød styrke a la den vi kender fra små babyer. Vi undersøger muligheden for at udvide dit bevægelsesrepertoire fra de klassiske yogastillinger til en åben, kontinuerlig bevægelse. Vi veksler mellem strukturerede bevægelser der forløser unødvendige spændinger og langsomme ”åbne flows” som inviterer dig til at gå på opdagelse i din egen indre erfaring af kroppen. Workshoppen trækker på elementer fra Dynamic Yoga metoden samt bevægelsessystemet fascial flow. Den er især god for dig der har brug for næring og ro efter en stresset periode eller dig der gerne vil finde nye måder at bevæge dig på i din yogapraksis.

    Teaching yoga is a rewarding job in itself. It is also a job that takes a little extra. The originality and freshness of your teaching comes from the depth of your living practice. This retreat helps you find ways to teach from your body rather than from knowledge or belief. It is also an opportunity to get inspiration and peer support to help you thrive in your working life. We are open for trained (and trainee) yoga teachers from all branches of the yoga family tree. The retreat is not a training in any particular approach to yoga. Instead, we will refine the way you translate the feeling intelligence of your own body into verbal instructions, finding your own voice.

    You will receive 25 hours of teaching in 3,5 days, deepening your somatic understanding of yoga posture practice.

    A typical day

    Each day begins early with a quiet sitting followed by a long flow-based yoga class addressing the theme of the day. You will learn to activate your body in a way that supports feeling sensation as the compass for your practice (as oposed to learning fixed principles of alignment or traditional “full” postures). Birgitte will take you through a structured sequence of classes based on becoming a little more sensitive to the changes in sensation within you. This way of teaching is an invitation for you to access an intelligent response to what you can feel from the wisdom of your own body. Each day will sensitize specific joints of the body and invite you to listen deeply to what they have to say.

    Afternoons will focus on somatic self-enquiry and/or refining your teaching skills. Guided experiments on the mat will help you explore the difference between “action” and “impact” in yoga postures to help you get clearer about how instructions could be more helpful for your students. You will be introduced to two levels of verbal instruction useful to promote safety, clarity and depth in your teaching. You will spend time in groups clarifying muscular actions and their impacts in the body and playing with layers of instruction.

    The evenings focus on dialogue, reflection and mentoring. Birgitte will use the Big Mind process (developed by Genpo Roshi) to facilitate a group dialogue. We will explore themes and dilemmas that comes up for you professionally and find resources to support you where you are. The evenings are structured group dialouges allowing you to tap into the wisdom already within you.

    The retreat begins thursday at 15.00 and ends sunday evening after dinner.

    Place: A beautiful 250-m2 house in Sweden, surrounded by a private forest. (at the border between Skåne and Blekinge, nearest town in Lönsboda) Accommodation in shared rooms. If you prefer your won private space you are welcome to bring your own tent and camp in the surrounding grass field.

    We limit this retreat to 12 participants to ensure the in depth learning for each of you and real exchange of knowledge and skills between peers. The intimate and homely atmosphere is is what makes this retreat unique.

    Price: 3.995 DKR. This covers 25 hours of teaching and food/chef. We  know you don’t make much money as a yoga teacher, so on this retreat we keep accommodation FREE. All you pay for is the food and the yoga. Between classes we will take turns helping the cook as needed and we will take care of the house together during the retreat.

    Fil 12-08-15 23.23.26Birgitte has been teaching workshops for yoga teachers for the past many years and have served as external examiner and guest teacher in several teacher trainings. Her 20 years of spiritual practice (14 of them teaching yoga) adds a rare depth and clarity to her work. Her workshops have inspired many students to let go of the need for external authority and allow the wisdom of their own body become the driving force in their practice. She has a nerdy and fun approach to exploring yoga practice and never ceases to learn from her body, her students, her colleagues and her teachers.  Originally trained as a psychologist (PhD) Birgitte has taught well over 5000 hours of yoga. In the past 2 years she has been in training with zen master Genpo Roshi to become a Big Mind Facilitator.

    Join us for a week in the beautiful mountains of Portugal. Birgitte will teach a yoga retreat supporting a somatic self-inquiry on your mat with slow, deep posture flows, sensitive and natural breath release and sweet bedtime meditations.
    The yoga posture practice is based on continuous movements that gradually deepen your sensitivity to sensation and invite you to listen to the teacher within. Morning classes begin with a seated pranayama practice and transitions into a soft vinyasa flow teaching balanced muscular activity to support your joints while strengthening and mobilizing the whole of your body. Afternoons offer a more quiet and meditative flow releasing connective tissue and nervous system.
    Two evenings we will play with the Big Mind process inviting you to collectively reflect and work with what comes up in your practice during the retreat. Big Mind was developed by Zen Master Genpo Roshi and takes place as a dialogue between the facilitator and the group.     The scales of sensation

    Most professional musicians practice scales and arpeggios throughout their career. Scales allow the artist to become one with the instrument. In that way, music can express itself freely and passionately without fingers struggling to find the keys. This is not unlike yoga posture practice. Here the instrument is your body. A yoga teacher will take the time to expose you to the scales of embodiment in every class. Allowing you to become one with changing sensations as it moves. In that way, the symphony of life as practice can express itself freely, deeply and passionately through you. A big part of a yoga teacher´s job is to play the scales of sensation.  Repetitive, simple, sensitive movement is an oportunity to become intimate with your body, to get to know your instrument so you can play it with ease and passion. We play the scales in the beginning, in the middle and in the end of our yoga-journey. We practice the basics every step of the way.

    Of course, you can learn to play a complex melody on the piano without practicing scales and arpeggios. You can play music without ever becoming one with the instrument. And it may sound just as great. But the artist in you will probably be drawn to what feels great: The intuitive flow and freedom offered by repetition. When the music flows without strain, delay or doubt it feels delicious. Major key, minor key, both can be played from a sense of oneness with the instrument. Giving yourself completely to the expression of music.

    Of course, you can learn to play around with challenging yoga postures without preparing yourself with repetitive movement. You can do a yoga posture without the scales of sensation, without becoming one with what you feel. And it may look amazing. But the yogi in you will most likely be drawn to what feels amazing: Intimacy with embodied being, awareness, presence. When life flows without resistance, it feels delicious. Good times, bad times, all of life can be experienced from a sense of oneness with what is happening. Giving your self completely to the expression of life.

    Practice yoga in one of the most beautiful, well-kept yoga shalas in Europe. Milelja retreat center has been hosting retreats for nearly 30 years in a homely and intimate atmosphere, plunged right in between the deep blue Mediterranean and the rough volcanic mountains. We welcome students of all levels and branches of the yoga family tree. You will be given a carefully sequenced somatic education that takes you straight to the subtle heart of yoga posture practice.

    In light of the refugee situation in Southern Europe we will donate 50% of the yoga teaching revenue from this retreat to local charity work. We have experienced an overwhelming desire from our previous retreat participants to help and support the local support projects with donations or practical work. You are most welcome to do karma yoga practice in the middle of the day on this retreat if you have the impulse, but this is in no way a requirement or even an expectation. If you wish to  help out with little practical jobs or donate money to local groups (there are still no professional care organizations present in Molyvos and Eftalou where most refugees arrive) we offer to help coordinate between you and the groups who are working with refugees in the nearby villages. If you want to bring clothes, blankets and the like for donation please check in with us the week up to departure as the resource situation change all the time.

    A typical day:

    Each day will begin at 8 with a pranayama session in our wooden yoga hall. From sitting in silence we then rool directly on to the yoga mat for a slow-flowing, dynamic posture practice landing in relaxation and seated meditation. Over the week Birgitte will guide you through 6 progressive practices allowing you to sensitize, recalibrate, mobilize and strengthen your body without struggle or pain. After the morning practice our hosts will serve a full vegetarian brunch buffet (fresh local produce is used whenever possible). Morning yoga is nice to do on an empty stomach. However, if you do need to eat a little breakfast before the morning classes we have fruit, nuts or müsli available in the dining room early in the morning and during the day if you need a snack.

    The afternoon sessions will alternate between longer workshops or shorter gentle yoga classes. The workshops will help you clarify the Dynamic Yoga Training Method to make sure it works for the body you have today. Here we will do little explorations together through dialogue and partner work ending with a gentle floor-practice and preparing you to dive deeper the next day. The shorter yoga classes are to nourish and relax you by tuning in to the subtle presence of body and breath. On days with shorter sessions you have some free time between brunch and afternoon class where you can rest, chill at the pool, hike or explore the beautiful nature of the north island. One day we take the afternoon off for you to explore the beach or mountain hikes. One evening the retreat center arranges a hot pool for muscle relaxation. You can also book a massage or treatment in the in-house wellness clinic.

    Most nights we will gather for an early home cooked dinner at the retrerat center. For the first and last evening of the retreat we will eat out. The old village of Molyvos is just 20 minutes away by foot and kept in its original narrow streets and stone cottages with lots of lovely tavernas and cafes.

    Evenings you will be given the space to sit in silent meditation with the rest of the group before going off to bed. We sit in intervals ranging from 15 to 60 minutes depending on your experience and training. Everyone is free to drop quietly in or out of the yoga hall. Instructions will be given on how to sit comfortably either on a cushion or a chair if  needed.

    We offer practical silence periods between 21.30 and 7.30 each day (meaning we go quiet, but of course can ask questions or give practical messages). Meditation and silence periods are optional. They are offered as an opportunity to deepen your practice if you have the interest. If you want to take an offline detox from your electronic communication we can fully support that. For those who need to use email, intenret or skype their loved ones during the retreat we have a free wifi zone near the pool deck.

    Prices and Booking:

    The teaching fee is 399 EUR covering all yoga and meditation sessions (minimum 30 contact hours). Everything else is paid separately and directly to our hosts. Your room reservation is refundable up to 8 weeks before the retreat. after that date you will be charged for 80% of the room cost in case of cancellation. Please ensure your travel insurance covers these expenses in case you have to cancel last minute.

    Board and lodging is payable directly to Milelja Retreat Center on arrival.  Treatments, dinners outside the retreat center, local transport and flight are not included in the prices. We will do our best to help you organize airport taxis so you can share if anyone arrives around the same time.

    Yoga i flow er blevet populært verden over under navne som f.eks Asthanga eller Vinyasa. På denne workshop udforsker vi en af de nye tendenser i yogaen: Kontinuerlig bevægelse og aktive stræk. I stedet for at holde en position i stilhed og vente på at kroppen giver sig, bevæger vi os hele tiden i små bølgebevægelser eller mini-flows (ullola) hvor dine muskler er aktive of støtter dig. Ullola betyder bølge på sanskrit og er en teknik der stammer fra Dynamic Yoga Metoden. Denne ”nye bølge” er en genial måde for din krop at ændre på gamle holdningsmønstre og blokeringer. Din krop lærer hurtigere og giver lettere slip når den er i gentagende bevægelse end når du står stille i en yogastilling. Ullola er en aktiv, effektiv og samtid nænsom tilgang til yoga i flow. Birgitte guider dig igennem en lang serie af ullola-bevægelser der lander blidt i en lang afspænding og en lille snak om yoga.

    Bindevævet er de små gennemsigtige ”poser” der forbinder kropens dele til en sammenhængende helhed. I yoga går vi ofte til bindevævet gennem lange statiske ”stræk” i passive stillinger (jf. yin yoga og restorativ yoga). En anden vej er at arbejde dybt med bindevævet gennem langsomme, subtile bevægelser (pre-movement). Birgitte guider dig igennem en meditativ praksis som opbygger en blød styrke a la den vi kender fra små babyer. Vi undersøger muligheden for at udvide dit bevægelsesrepertoire fra de klassiske yogastillinger til en åben, kontinuerlig bevægelse. Vi veksler mellem strukturerede bevægelser der forløser unødvendige spændinger og langsomme ”åbne flows” som inviterer dig til at gå på opdagelse i din egen indre erfaring af kroppen. Workshoppen er især god for dig der har brug for næring og ro efter en stresset periode eller dig der gerne vil finde nye måder at bevæge dig på i din yogapraksis.

    At the heart of any yoga practice is the willingness to feel. When yoga is practiced through the lense of sensitivity we encounter a deep intimacy with what is happening. An intimacy we so often seek in places far away from where we actually are.

    Birgitte will guide you through a 3 hour practice sensitizing especially the joints and inviting you to feel the whole of your body more clearly and directly. The practice alternate between waves of yoga postures and subtle micro movements or stilness. An invitation to release any tension your body is willing to deeply feel and embrace.

    Modul 1: Bevægelse og sensitivitet: Lær at skelne mellem “action” og “impact” i yogaens fysiske praksis

    Den første del af kurset giver dig en grundig forståelse af den dynamiske yogapraksis. Du lærer, hvad der er ’action’ ( det du gør) og hvad der er ’impact’ ( det der sker, når du gør noget). Gennem forståelsen af ’action’ og ’impact’ vil du tydeligere mærke, hvordan kroppen responderer på bevægelse og muskelaktivitet.  Du får en introduktion til en sansebaseret tilgang til yoga, hvor det bevidste nærvær i kroppen er i højsædet og din evne til selv at mærke efter gives den højeste autoritet. Du får en praktisk og kropslig forståelse af bevægelse og sensitivitet som grundlaget for al læring på yogamåtten. Du bliver introduceret for 7 muskulære aktiviteter som vækker kroppens medfødte intelligens, og som kan bruges i enhver yogastilling uanset stilart eller niveau.

    11.30-13.00: præsentation af teknikkerne/metoderne bag morgenens klasse

    14.30-18.00 Praktiske øvelser, træning af sensitivitet og afklaring af teknikkerne fra morgenklassen sådan at de kommer til at fungere i din egen praksis.

    Hvem kan deltage?

    Hvis du er under uddannelse til yogalærer eller allerede er uddannet yogalærer, er du klar til at deltage på efteruddannelsen. Det er ikke et krav, at du er i gang med at undervise endnu. Hvis du har omfattende erfaring med at undervise i yoga, men du ikke er uddannet yogalærer, kan du også deltage.

    Som yogalærere har vi ofte brug for at læne os op af ydre autoriteter såsom viden, principper eller rollemodeller. Vi vil i begyndelsen altid have brug for at planlægge sekvenser, kopiere stilarter og formidle andres viden på vores klasser for at føle os sikre i rollen som underviser. Overgangen til at slippe støttehjulene og finde vores egen stemme beror på en dyb tillid til vores egen kropslige erfaring. At undervise direkte fra din krop til elevens krop kræver frihed til at eksperimentere i et trygt forum, hvor du kan slå hovedet fra og arbejde uden filter. Du får mulighed for at finpudse din instruktion med feedback fra Birgitte og får redskaber til at arbejde struktureret sammen med dine kolleger så I efterfølgende kan bruge hinanden i jeres videre udvikling. Du bliver introduceret til et sprog for undervisning, der beror på dine elevers egen kropslige intelligens og evne til at mærke kroppen, snarere end din autoritet og viden som lærer. Du vil få værktøjer til, hvordan du lærer dine elever at mærke kroppen.

    Practice yoga in one of the most beautiful, well-kept yoga shalas in Europe. Milelja retreat center has been hosting retreats for nearly 30 years in a homely and intimate atmosphere, plunged right in between the deep blue Mediterranean and the rough volcanic mountains. We welcome students of all levels and branches of the yoga family tree. You will be given a carefully sequenced somatic education that takes you straight to the subtle heart of yoga posture practice.

    In light of the refugee situation in Southern Europe we will donate 50% of the yoga teaching revenue from this retreat to local charity work. We have experienced an overwhelming desire from our previous retreat participants to help and support the local support projects with donations or practical work. You are most welcome to do karma yoga practice in the middle of the day on this retreat if you have the impulse, but this is in no way a requirement or even an expectation. If you wish to  help out with little practical jobs or donate money to local groups (there are still no professional care organizations present in Molyvos and Eftalou where most refugees arrive) we offer to help coordinate between you and the groups who are working with refugees in the nearby villages. If you want to bring clothes, blankets and the like for donation please check in with us the week up to departure as the resource situation change all the time.

    A typical day:

    Each day will begin at 8 with a pranayama session in our wooden yoga hall. From sitting in silence we then rool directly on to the yoga mat for a slow-flowing, dynamic posture practice landing in relaxation and seated meditation. Over the week Birgitte will guide you through 6 progressive practices allowing you to sensitize, recalibrate, mobilize and strengthen your body without struggle or pain. After the morning practice our hosts will serve a full vegetarian brunch buffet (fresh local produce is used whenever possible). Morning yoga is nice to do on an empty stomach. However, if you do need to eat a little breakfast before the morning classes we have fruit, nuts or müsli available in the dining room early in the morning and during the day if you need a snack.

    The afternoon sessions will alternate between longer workshops or shorter gentle yoga classes. The workshops will help you clarify the Dynamic Yoga Training Method to make sure it works for the body you have today. Here we will do little explorations together through dialogue and partner work ending with a gentle floor-practice and preparing you to dive deeper the next day. The shorter yoga classes are to nourish and relax you by tuning in to the subtle presence of body and breath. On days with shorter sessions you have some free time between brunch and afternoon class where you can rest, chill at the pool, hike or explore the beautiful nature of the north island. One day we take the afternoon off for you to explore the beach or mountain hikes. One evening the retreat center arranges a hot pool for muscle relaxation. You can also book a massage or treatment in the in-house wellness clinic.

    Most nights we will gather for an early home cooked dinner at the retrerat center. For the first and last evening of the retreat we will eat out. The old village of Molyvos is just 20 minutes away by foot and kept in its original narrow streets and stone cottages with lots of lovely tavernas and cafes.

    Evenings you will be given the space to sit in silent meditation with the rest of the group before going off to bed. We sit in intervals ranging from 15 to 60 minutes depending on your experience and training. Everyone is free to drop quietly in or out of the yoga hall. Instructions will be given on how to sit comfortably either on a cushion or a chair if  needed.

    We offer practical silence periods between 21.30 and 7.30 each day (meaning we go quiet, but of course can ask questions or give practical messages). Meditation and silence periods are optional. They are offered as an opportunity to deepen your practice if you have the interest. If you want to take an offline detox from your electronic communication we can fully support that. For those who need to use email, intenret or skype their loved ones during the retreat we have a free wifi zone near the pool deck.

    Prices and Booking:

    The teaching fee is 399 EUR covering all yoga and meditation sessions (minimum 30 contact hours). Everything else is paid separately and directly to our hosts. Your room reservation is refundable up to 8 weeks before the retreat. after that date you will be charged for 80% of the room cost in case of cancellation. Please ensure your travel insurance covers these expenses in case you have to cancel last minute.

    Board and lodging is payable directly to Milelja Retreat Center on arrival.  Treatments, dinners outside the retreat center, local transport and flight are not included in the prices. We will do our best to help you organize airport taxis so you can share if anyone arrives around the same time.

    En hel fundamental del af yoga er at lytte til kroppen. På samme måde som du ville lytte til en god ven der fortæller dig om sin dag kan yoga foregå som en respektfuld og åben samtale. Når vi arbejder med sensitivitet og det at mærke efter hos sig selv falder præstationstrangen, projekterne og dommene væk og vi står ansigt til ansigt med den intimitet vi så ofte længes efter og søger uden for os selv.

    Workshoppen består af fire klasser der progressivt lærer dig at handle på det du selv kan mærke i form af fysiske sansefornemmelser. Vi arbejder med blide flows men også med restorative stillinger og meget subtile bevægelser der går på bindevæv og nervesystem. Ud over en øget kropsfornemmelse får du bevæget dig godt igennem og får et par tips til hvordan du kan få nervesystemet i ro når du har brug for hvile og afstresning. Hver klasse bygger ovenpå den næste så vi integrerer det vi tidligere har lært. Hver klasse er tre timer lang og indeholder fysiske stillnger, en lang afspænding samt eventuelt meditation eller dialog.

    Pull the plug, take the plunge and dive into the depths of yoga. This urban retreat will take place in the beautiful Metropolis Yoga Shala at Sluseholmen, an undisturbed city space with plenty of open sky, ocean view and nature walks just around the corner. Each day we will dive deeper into yoga posture flows, meditation allowing you to tune into the subtle delight of being deeply present in the body. Parts of the retreat will take place in practical silence, giving you the opportunity to go deep within.

    We offer donation-based accomodation for up to 4 students during the retreat if you are travelling from outside Copenhagen.

    The urban retreat is open to all from beginners to the most advanced. All classes will be taught in Danish or English as required. All clases are taught by Birgitte

    Interview with Birgitte

    Q: where do you place the needle on ”yoga as a spiritual practice” versus ”yoga as a body shaper” scale.
    B: Yoga is for me is unity. Therefore, it’s hard for me to place that needle anywhere. I see no opposition between spirituality and embodiment. There is nothing about your body that is not totally divine! No spiritual practice takes place outside the body. Without a body you´d be dead. I like to see it this way: If one side of the coin is spirituality and the other is embodiment yoga is the whole coin as such. That which includes and transcends all opposites.

    Q: what drew you to yoga?

    B: When I was about 8 years old, this little bird crashed into my window and died. My mother helped me bury it in the garden. I was devastated. She said it would go to heaven. However, I had trouble getting the whole idea of paradise. I imagined as a tropical version of my parents garden and figured there would not be enough space for those beings that die. Where do we all go? I wondered. That night I dreamt of the bird and in the dream, it came to me that maybe this world is nothing but paradise. That there is no outside to our existence. We never leave. The bird would rot and turn into earth and nourish a plant, get eaten and turn into part of an animal or excrements or food for worms or whatever. It never stops. In the dream, there was no heaven to go to. This was it! So we had better make the most of it, I thought. After a dream like that, I suppose the wise thing to do would be to just go out and enjoy life. Nevertheless, I didn’t. I got extremely interested in everything spiritual, supernatural or mysterious. In my late teenage years, this brought me to Buddhism where I studied with a Tibetan lama for about 10 years. My grandmother had introduced me to yoga as a child and I did go back into it again when it became fashionable in the mid 1990ies. However, I wasn´t really drawn to it until I met my teacher Godfrey Devereux. He spoke like someone who had fully realized that this was it. It was not just an idea from a childhood dream. He was living it and in his class, I was experiencing it. I was hooked to yoga right there and then.

    Q: And how often do you really practice yoga.

    B: There is always an opportunity for self-enquiry whatever I am busy doing. From that perspective, I practice yoga 24/7. … I got away with that one too easy didn´t I? I guess that´s not what you meant. My formal practice is mainly sitting on a cushion, which I do every day if possible. There are definitely days and sometimes even a week or more where I don’t get to do my posture practice, it depends how interested I am or whether I’m preparing for teaching.

    Q: Do you ever loose motivation for doing yoga? How do you get back on track?

    B: Of course. When I do, I just wait until interest takes me back to the mat. Right now, for example, I prefer sitting in meditation to doing posture practice. However, it can reverse again at any time. Interest and motivation comes in waves and I like to just to wait for the next one. You can’t push the river as they say.
    Q: Do you do any other form of exercise?
    B: I just started running this summer to challenge my asthmatic lungs. I´m shit at it though! I doubt it will last the winter. It´s probably just one of those silly projects.

    Q: Who inspire your yoga practice?

    B: The whole community around Dynamic Yoga is a great inspiration for me. Several of my colleagues in Denmark, the other Dynamic Yoga senior teachers and senior trainers are feeding my work and challenging my assumptions all the time. And I love the teaching language that is cross-breeding between us. My main inspiration is of course my teacher Godfrey who is the originator of the Dynamic Yoga training method. I´ve been studying with him since I started teaching. Lately I´ve been on retreat with a zen master who taught Godfrey way back in the 1980íes, his name is Genpo Roshi. I definitely want to do more with him too!

    Q: Have you ever felt so attached to someone or something that you couldn’t let them or it go even though they didn’t serve you any purpose?

    B: Sure! All kinds of lame things. I´m quite attached to a pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos that I never managed to wear for more than once, and only for about 20 minutes. I just can’t drop them even though they hurt my feet and are totally useless! I´m also still quite attached to my sense of self and all its little fantasies about its own existence and power. I just can´t seem to let go of it, even though it has become quite clear to me that it’s a fantasy. The idea of “me” has no grounding in reality. I´ve already been so many different people in this life that it makes me sweat just thinking about it. Still I hopple on with my stupid stilettos in my hand calling myself Birgitte as if that was a solid and permanent entity. But hey, if I really had “learned to let go of attachment” once and for all, there would be no “me” left to make that claim. It would be tricky to do an interview with such a person ha ha ha.

    Q: How do you suggest we learn to let go of attachment?

    B: I suppose letting go is not an act of doing. It’s something that happens when we stop doing. Letting go, surrendering is a spontaneous impact of doing yoga. It happens when it happens. I did at one point get very intensely into my practice and put my relationship with my yoga mat above everything else for quite some time (quite attached, paradoxically). That resulted in quite a few years where i got very “detached” from my friends, society, politics, science or the world in general. Life outside my practice simply did not interest me very much. I actually woke up one morning looking at my two kids and found myself thinking “child” rather than “my child”. It just happened! I really didn’t mean to. Let me stress: I don’t see that sort of behaviour as an accomplishment at all! In fact, I think that all my so-called detachment was just a cover up for a great big fear of being vulnerable here in this crazy world where things can hurt like hell and your loved ones can be taken from you at any moment. Detachment, when turned into a project in itself, can easily become a form of spiritual bypassing; a way of using spiritual practice to not have to deal with the difficulties in life. So to me attachments are part and parcel of being human. It’s just one side of a whole coin. My two kids need me to be deeply attached in order for them to survive. And one day I’ll need to let go of some of that attachment for them to thrive and live their own life. Right now my practice is just to live and be present in relationships with other living creatures as fully and freely as possible. Not trying to hold on and not trying to let go either. I´m not saying I’m good or bad at it. It´s just an enquiry.

    Q: if you could only do one pose what would it be?

    B: Savasana! Or wait…sitting in half lotus on my cushion… argh! That´s a hard one. I’ll have to think about it.

    Q: how do you eat? What foods do you include the most? What do you avoid?
    B: I eat whatever my body wants. Except peanuts. I’m so allergic you could kill me with a bag of peanuts.

    Q: do you have any advice for us to become less disconnected to ourselves and more in tune with what goes on in our body/mind?

    B: We have a saying in Dynamic Yoga: “Follow the delight – Feel sensation”. Right now your body is breathing, feel the nostrils changing temperature. Right now your heart is beating, feel the pulsation of blood in your chest, your hands, your fingers. Feel the pull of gravity, feel your muscles respond. Feel your feet touching the ground, your lips touching each other, the soft pressure of air against your skin. It´s always available right now. Sensations will keep streaming as long as you are alive. You have never been disconnected from your bodymind. Being consciously aware of body and mind it is just one side of the whole consciousness-coin. Our being includes it all. Yoga is to me an invitation to engage, to say yes to being at one with that which is always, already right here.

    Pull the plug, take the plunge and dive into the depths of yoga. This urban retreat will take place in the beautiful Metropolis Yoga Shala at Sluseholmen, an undisturbed city space with plenty of open sky, ocean view and nature walks just around the corner. Each day we will dive deeper into yoga posture flows, meditation allowing you to tune into the subtle delight of being deeply present in the body. Parts of the retreat will take place in practical silence, giving you the opportunity to go deep within.

    We offer donation-based accomodation for up to 4 students during the retreat if you are travelling from outside Copenhagen.

    The urban retreat is open to all from beginners to the most advanced. All classes will be taught in Danish or English as required. All clases are taught by Birgitte

    Teaching yoga is a rewarding job in itself. It is also a job that takes a little extra. The originality and freshness of your teaching comes from the depth of your living practice. This retreat helps you find ways to teach from your body rather than from knowledge or belief. It is also an opportunity to get inspiration and peer support to help you thrive in your working life. We are open for trained (and trainee) yoga teachers from all branches of the yoga family tree. The retreat is not a training in any particular approach to yoga. Instead, we will refine the way you translate the feeling intelligence of your own body into verbal instructions. You will receive 35 hours of teaching in 5 days, deepening your somatic understanding of yoga posture practice.

    A typical day

    Each day begins early with a quiet sitting followed by a long flow-based yoga class addressing the theme of the day. You will learn to activate your body in a way that supports feeling sensation as the compass for your practice (as oposed to learning fixed principles of alignment or traditional “full” postures). Birgitte will take you through a structured sequence of classes based on becoming a little more sensitive to the changes in sensation within you. This way of teaching is an invitation for you to access an intelligent response to what you can feel from the wisdom of your own body. Each day will sensitize specific joints of the body and invite you to listen deeply to what they have to say.

    Afternoons will focus on somatic self-enquiry and/or refining your teaching skills. Guided experiments on the mat will help you explore the difference between “action” and “impact” in yoga postures to help you get clearer about how instructions could be more helpful for your students. You will be introduced to two levels of verbal instruction useful to promote safety, clarity and depth in your teaching. You will spend time in groups clarifying muscular actions and their impacts in the body and playing with layers of instruction.

    The evenings focus on dialogue and reflection. Birgitte will use the Big Mind process (developed by Genpo Roshi) to facilitate a group dialogue. We will explore themes and dilemmas that comes up for you professionally and find resources to support you where you are. The evenings are structured gruup dialouges allowing you to tap into the wisdom already within you.

    Place: A beautiful 250-m2 house in Sweden, surrounded by a private forest. (at the border between Skåne and Blekinge, nearest town in Lönsboda) Accommodation in shared rooms . Maximum number of students is 10

    Price: 4.895 DKR. This covers 35 hours of teaching and food/chef. We  know you don’t make much money as a yoga teacher, so on this retreat we keep accommodation FREE and instead we help each other out around the house and kitchen during the retreat.

    Birgitte Gorm Hansen

    Birgitte has been teaching workshops for yoga teachers for the past many years and have served as external examiner and guest teacher in several teacher trainings. Her 20 years of spiritual practice (14 of them teaching yoga) adds a rare depth and clarity to her work. Her workshops have inspired many students to let go of the need for external authority and allow the wisdom of their own body become the driving force in their practice. She has a nerdy and fun approach to exploring yoga practice and never ceases to learn from her body, her students, her colleagues and her teachers.  Originally trained as a psychologist (PhD) Birgitte has taught well over 5000 hours of yoga. In the past 2 years she has been in training with zen master Genpo Roshi to become a Big Mind Facilitator.

    Our autumn Dynamic Yoga intensive takes place in the island of Lesvos. Practice yoga in one of the most beautiful, well-kept yoga shalas in Europe. Milelja retreat center has been hosting retreats for nearly 30 years in a homely and intimate atmosphere, plunged right in between the deep blue Mediterranean and the rough volcanic mountains. We welcome students of all levels and branches of the yoga family tree. You will be given a carefully sequenced somatic education that takes you straight to the subtle heart of yoga posture practice.

    In response to the current situation at the coastlines in Southern Europe, this retreat will donate all revenue to organized care for the refugees arriving in Lesbos. For each new participant booking after september 1st we will donate 399 EUR of your payment to care (corresponding with the amount you pay for the yoga sessions). We are in weekly contact with Milelja retreat center to get news of the local area. As we are located in the country side remote from the large roads, things are peacefull and tranquil at the retreat center itself. If you wish to bring and donate blankets, clothes or sleeping bags we will help you distribute this to local organizers.

    A typical day:

    Each day will begin with a sunrise pranayama session in our warm, wooden yoga hall. From sitting in silence we then rool directly on to the yoga mat for a slow-flowing, dynamic posture practice landing in relaxation and seated meditation. Over the week Birgitte will guide you through 6 progressive practices allowing you to sensitize, recalibrate, mobilize and strengthen your body without struggle or pain. After the morning practice our hosts will serve a full vegetarian brunch buffet (fresh local produce is used whenever possible). Morning yoga is nice to do on an empty stomach. However, if you do need to eat a little breakfast before the morning classes we have fruit, nuts or müsli available in the dining room early in the morning and during the day if you need a snack.

    The afternoon sessions will alternate between longer workshops or shorter gentle yoga classes. The workshops will help you clarify the Dynamic Yoga Training Method to make sure it works for the body you have today. Here we will do little explorations together through dialogue and partner work ending with a gentle floor-practice and preparing you to dive deeper the next day. The shorter yoga classes are to nourish and relax you by tuning in to the subtle presence of body and breath. On days with shorter sessions you have some free time between brunch and afternoon class where you can rest, chill at the pool, hike or explore the beautiful nature of the north island. Some days the retreat center arranges a hot pool dip for muscle relaxation. You can also book a massage or treatment in the in-house wellness clinic.

    Most nights we will gather for an early home cooked dinner at the retrerat center. For the first and last evening of the retreat we will eat out. The old village of Molyvos is just 20 minutes away by foot and kept in its original narrow streets and stone cottages with lots of lovely tavernas and cafes.

    Evenings you will be given the space to sit in silent meditation with the rest of the group before going off to bed. We sit in intervals ranging from 15 to 60 minutes depending on your experience and training. Everyone is free to drop quietly in or out of the yoga hall. Instructions will be given on how to sit comfortably either on a cushion or a chair if  needed.

    We offer practical silence periods between 22.00 and 7.30 each day (meaning we go quiet, but of course can ask questions or give practical messages). Meditation and silence periods are optional. They are offered as an opportunity to deepen your practice if you have the interest. If you want to take an offline detox from your electronic communication we can fully support that. For those who need to use email, intenret or skype their loved ones during the retreat we have a free wifi zone near the pool deck.

    The teaching fee is 399 EUR covering all yoga and meditation sessions (total of 35 contact hours). You can reserve a space by paying a non-refundable deposit of 200 EUR. (The remaining 199 EUR is due before Auigust 1st).Everything else is paid separately and directly to our hosts.

    Board and lodging is payable directly to Milelja Retreat Center on arrival.  Treatments, dinners outside the retreat center, local transport and flight are not included in the prices. We will do our best to help you organize airport taxis so you can share if anyone arrives around the same time.

    Intro 1: Dynamik og flow

    En serie af blide yoga-flows der kommer hele kroppen igennem. Du får en introduktion ti grundlæggende teknikker i et roligt tempo så nye elever kan koble sig på og gamle elevere får lov at lande efter sommerferien. Vi arbejde med bevægelser og stillinger der forløser åndedrættets frie rytme og giver ro i nervesystemet. Klasserne foregår i et blidt og roligt tempo som alle kan være med på.  Klasserne består af enkle yogastillinger undervist i små mini-flows med opmærksomhed på åndedrættet.

    Dyb styrke i de små muskler der holder kroppen stabil og rank og giver en sund styrke omkring leddene. Vi arbejder med hele kroppen men går især i dybden med muskulaturen omkring rygsøjlen.     Making friends with “monkey mind”

    “Monkey mind” is the part of you that fills your head with chatter and throws peanuts in your face when you are trying to “do yoga” or sit in meditation. Monkey mind is playing up when we find ourself lying awake in bed, when we put the toothpaste in the refrigerator or when we spend an entire yoga class thinking about…whatever! This workshop will help you make friends with your monkey mind, getting the benefit of its power, strength and speed rather than trying to tie it down. We begin with a facilitated dialogue with the part of our mind that is wild and unruly and sometimes disturbs us in our daily life. From there we slide on to the yoga mat for a softly flowing posture practice, relaxation and seated meditation.

    The workshop is open to anyone, especially if you sometimes feel disturbed by your thinking mind.
